Hi folks, It has been a while since I have been on the forum ---- No real reason, just seemed that never enough time, and Lap top got lifted from the car , via the window the robber smashed !!!! ( which was the boot, that had the pc locked away in !) Life has been busy, with JC and his needs ( Demands !) I am just wondering if any one out there can help, JC is being assesed for a statement, he has been seen by the ED pysc ,She was great she knew straight away that JC needed more help then the school could give - ( as last !!! ) been a battle - We have to fill stuff in, I am just wondering how much more hard work we have ahead of us, if the ED Phys, says he needs to be statemented - is this enough- school say he needs it .... - We are about to start on our own version of war and peace ......... to send back to the LEA - The battle still going on, or can I say we are seeing the finishing line !!! - sorry having a "gosh I am worn out with the battles " advice - am I nearly there !

Hi, We told JC 10 - in october half term, We were honest and told him from our hearts - that he was diffrent we knew why, we explained that is His brain was wired diffrently to mine and His Dads , he said ok, - asked if he could watch TV ! then has spent the last 5 months asking questions and learning about his AS, He offten asks questions, " am I like this beacuse i have AS?" - Some times we say yes,but some times we say no, it is beacuse you are 10 ,and that's what boys of 10 do...... <'> we have found Tony Attwoods book - fab and social stories ( Linda gray ) - have been a help..... Jc - has told his closest freinds , that he has AS, ( His cousin -who also has AS, and another cousin ). He is trying hard to work with it, we are pleased we told him, however it was a rocky road once the words were out......... we are over that - and are able to be open and honest with him which I hope he will remember ..... Be yourself and say what you think is right - no right or wrong answer - but it still made me cry Kazzer - JC 10 AS & Dyspraxia ??? is this the spelling

Hiya Di, you are in the same place as we are - I called them , they did not say what we would get, and we would hear by letter, the DLA and the CA - where great , the DLA told us ovet the phone and the CA was put into the bank account 5 days after we applied... I just think this dept is a little slow , My friend gets Middle rate DLA and she gets the Tax credit as well, she did say they are slow to sort it, but they do back date it... I find it is another thing we have to keep on checking , instead if just getting on with life.... Have a great weekend K

Hiya Shars, I know the place u are in... My Brillant Brother and Sister in law ( school teacher ) - who i have always taken advice from ... they did the whole thing , me and the DH - are not tough enough, me and the DH allow poor behavour ! it has been 18 months since we started the process, an we just do not discuss JC's AS, This means we see much less of them these days , which is sad as JC loves his Uncle... Hey . life to short to worry about those that are not on your "space ship" Keep smiling - My DH's Family are cool totally on board with it all - k

Hi, Jc has just been given DLA at Middle rate - and All we needed to do was call Child tax credit , and they updated our file, - I have not had any addtional payments from them as of yet, mind u was only last week.... The form for the C. Allowance, was so easy to do on line we sent it electrionical ( Is that is spelt right!) - on the Thursday eve at 10pm - the 4th Oct, and On Wednesday 10th Oct the back dated money, was in our account, they back dated it to the day they started the DLA... We could not belivie that..... Jc got it... he also was given Lower rate motabilty , ( what does this mean ! )

Hiya Devon's Mum, SENCO's may have a title, but in our recent meetings , we have found them to be out of there depth, we are also woried about our son and year 7 , he is also in year 5... I keep a diary of evidance for him, as he is really bad at telling us about whay happends to him, I use this at all meetings i have with the school, I have been advised by the parent partnership team, to keep evidance that supports the schools lack of ability to deal with JC's Needs ... ( This may be helpful for you Devon's Mum ) Doing this has really helped me be foucsed , our School did not suppport our application for a statement, I am detremined to have an assesment for JC, by keeping a full log , to use to the LEA, as " do other parents spend this much time in school" and do other children need this amount of addtional care, is this normal .... etc etc the battles we face for our children are long , hard and painful, we will always have them , we must stand firm and show the schools, that they need to listen to us... Challange there policys, I am not allowing the school to tell me that they are not able to help Jc, I am demanding the corect level of support, if they can not provided that then they need to ask the LEA for help ( Statement ) Good luck , you are not alone, even though some times it can feel like it.. totally agree - with this - That has been our findings.... LEA have a lot to answer for rant short and over....

Hiya all, I wanted to share , a real postive week with you all Jc had a week at Sayes Croft, outward bound place, lots of walking building rafts, swimming in the lake with all your clothes on stuff, nature trails - using a compass etc etc , sleeping wth 16 peers in 8 bunks .... I can tell you me and the DH , where worried , concerned and on the brink of a pull out ... but we did not want to stop JC from going cos the school where being un helpful ---- 4 meetings in 8 school days - The battle was well fought..... Head, Deputy head, 2 YR 5 teachers , me my ACE DH and the inclusion manager for the brough - 3 pages of A4 paper later and a 1hr meeting, we had a plan... they Listened and learnt about life with Jc .. Best bit of all - the school did as we asked, JC had a brill time, of course they had moments , but they planned for them, JC had a spot where he could reflect and go on every outing, he had a place while in the building , that was his to be alone if he needed time, they let him eat 1st all meals, they gave him his chocolate drink, they did an ace job... best of all Jc loved it.... so If you are worried, action plan, and keep chipping away,, we did get our way we did get the correct level of support and it ment our son was included... My faith in the school - moving up the % ladder once again... Have a great rest of the week everyone , we are so pleased in our house with JC as he was away for 4 nights and 5 days....

JC Who is nearly 10 , climbs onto the counters to reach Chocolate and raids the tins, for "quick " energy food. We have started to Hind the Goodie tins, in the most bazzare places, in the hope JC won't find them... Me an the Hubby , then forget to tell each other , the hidding place... We have a house full of "goodies" that no one can find... It is not Funny, gets to high stress levels on some days I know how u feel.... We have a policy , on always ask 1st, Jc just does not register it.... K

We sent off forms to try and claim, Back in July... I have had 4 letters back 1 telling us they have written to Jc's Consulant for information.... which I found strange as I had sent the full report to them 1 letter asking me why I sent them the Doc's 3 days later than the date they had requested them back by 2 letters - telling me they have still not come to a final outcome... Is this normal and was it really worth the 4 weeks of writing and reading of sheets and sheets and of course photo copying... Will he get it..... will we ever get an answer.... I am waiting for the negative letter, from them, as ever thing else , is a No at the Mo... K
