lorryw Report post Posted October 22, 2006 We watched it on DVD last week (region 1 USA import, works out cheaper than all going to the pictures) and thought it was excellent. Weird seeing the Fonz as a very old man. Lorainex

Kathryn Report post Posted October 22, 2006 (edited) Saw "The History Boys" earlier in the week, kind of Dead Poets' Society meets Goodbye Mr. Chips, but much deeper than either. Funny and moving - I cried and I don't often cry in films. Watched Vera Drake on DVD last night - also excellent. I think Mike Leigh is a superb director and got the 1950 period just right. (not that I was around then ) K x Edited October 22, 2006 by Kathryn
Frangipani Report post Posted October 22, 2006 Mine would have to be 'Click' with Adam Sandler http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0389860/ Would have to give it 4 out of 5 F. My daughter and I watched this at the movies a couple of months ago and loved it. Were pleasantly amazed. My son watched it yesterday and he said he cried, my 19 year old son. I remember now my daughter and I cried too, but, I was shocked to hear my sons comments. He certainly got me from the left. A lot of people find Adam Sandler a bit annoying, but this film is different.

(not that I was around then ) K x I got Vera Drake as a birthday present couple of years ago.......excellant film but a STRANGE present to get from your hubby. He also got me Enduring Love which I love, its possibly my alltime favourite favourite book (Ian McEwan) as well as a lovely film . I'm hoping The History Boys is still on at our local cinema. Bagpuss Report post Posted October 24, 2006 I watched Chocolat recently on dvd....hadn't appealed to me when it first came out, then my Johnny Depp obsession kicked in and I bought it. Really loved it.......of course, had nothing to do with JD looking absolutely beautiful Heck, what more could a woman want..... a story about strong women, chocolate and JD.....heaven I know, I know......he's done it before, but he didn't do it for me as Willy Wonka
smiley Report post Posted October 25, 2006 Oh, Mr JD Only as a cheeky pirate though! Anyone know if Snowcake is still at the cinemas??? Tried googlin' - can't find anything Da Vinci Code was OK - not as good as the book tho
baddad Report post Posted October 25, 2006 Oh, Mr JD Only as a cheeky pirate though! Anyone know if Snowcake is still at the cinemas??? Tried googlin' - can't find anything Da Vinci Code was OK - not as good as the book tho Hiya smiler! it was only on in a few cinemas - a bit 'art house' for yer average odeon, apparently... Good news - out on DVD in January - so not too long to wait. I suspect as well it might be a film that suits the intimacy of the small screen better anyway.. Ms Weaver and Mr Rickman deserve better than some TPWS scrunching popcorn behind you IMHO Haven't watched many recent films recently(?) but did re-view Gross Point Blanke a while ago starring all of those lovely Cussacks AND Dan Ackroyd. Great Movie. Great acting. Great soundtrack ('Blister'!). I would watch the Cussacks eating Sunday lunch - all barking, all brilliant! L&P BD

smallworld Report post Posted October 25, 2006 I really like 'Grosse Point Blank' ( like most John Cusack's films ) and had watched it again just before I went to my 20year school reunion, and was just waiting for someone to ask 'and what do you do....?' No-one did !! It was all 'how many kids have you got?' and 'where do you live?' I did have to go up to one chap and say ' Aren't you my window cleaner ?' ( he was ) my mate then asked me to go ask him if he could be her window cleaner too Anyway, my favourite film has to be 'Blade Runner' (had to just retype that as it came out as 'Balde Runner' ) which conjures up totally the wrong image !! Gerrard Report post Posted November 14, 2006 Got to say it has to be Amelie for me. Although I could have a different answer any minute. The Hill or Cinema Paradiso. Shaun of the Dead....can't stop watching that for now. Gerry

Kathryn Report post Posted November 15, 2006 I watched Monster on TV the other night only because I was curious to see why Charlize Theron won her Oscar. I would not normally have watched a film like this - I don't go much for sex n' violence, but I was utterly absorbed, to my surprise. A very intelligent film about what leads someone to become a killer, without offering neat answers. very moving too, all the more so because based on a true story.
