Hi TN

Been following this but not posting.... sounds like you have a few ideas to be going along with.

I don't have any suggestions to add to what's already been said.... but I so empathise/sympathise with the subject in question.

I have had difficulties with socialising all my life... but being a female seems to have at least one benefit in that as a species we tend to be able to go into 'auto witter' fairly easily and nobody bats an eyelid! I've compensated and managed to hide my inner turmoil by developing the ability to talk none stop about everything and anything  I'm naturally shy and extremely unsociable but ask anyone who 'knows' me (or thinks they do) and they would tell you the opposite. Most people have me down as an outgoing friendly quirky (odd? ) type because that's what I do! But given the choice I'd rather be totally on my own with a good book.... I'm very comfortable with my own company but also I don't want to be isolated.... so I have spent most of my adult life perfecting my 'act' to the point that it's now a habit. If I feel the need I know I can retreat at any time. But like I said, it's easier by default because I'm a girl :D

Don't give up trying TN.... you WILL find your niche.

Take care

Flo' :D

That's it exactly. I don't mind being on my own but sometimes I really just want to be able to meet up with a friend, do something with other people, or have a face to face intelligent conversation (i.e. not just yammer on about what Paris Hilton is wearing this season (or whatever))

I don't want to be with people all the time (God I'd go mad)(or, rather, more mad) - just to know that there's someone there should I ever need them :notworthy:

Well done for ringing the shop....you are certainly proactive, gotta take my hat off to you (if I was wearing one  ). Let us know how it goes

Maybe as you say, posting something in the Off Topic section re a northern meet up would be a start, see how many members are interested in organising something....but you can definately count me in (hope my hair has grown abit by then  )

Take care and good luck on Thursday :D

Nice one dude, hope Thursday goes ok.

Try and take a big deep breath before you go inside and also it might help to take some information with you about AS. You might not even mention it though I would if I were you, if you do though having a print off or something with you could help if you need to get across what AS is. Good luck either way, I hope it goes well for you!

RE the meet up, it doesn't have to be in February, that's just when the hen party was arranged for. In fact, it's probably better if it's not in February at all because I'm kinda busy most weekends. Also the end of March is a no go because that's the actual wedding then. The weekend of the 10th of Feb I'm going to see Bloc Party play in Birmingham on the Saturday so that's a no-no, the weekend after is the hen party so that's a no-no cos I don't want to restrict my involvement in the meet up to 30mins or something. The weekend after Bob's away on another stag do (why do things all fall at the same time? My bro is going to Prague for his stag do and then the next week the other stag do is in Poland! Crazy!). I'm not sure if I would be able to make it to the meet up without Bob (I hope this would be ok) because I'm not very brave  He's ever so charming though, the exact opposite of us Aspies socially so he would probably get everyone talking :D Anyway, the weekend after that (beginning of March I think) I'm seeing Nine Inch Nails in Birmingham and then it's only a couple of weeks till the wedding! Phew!

What about meeting up somewhere just before/after christmas? We could all agree to wear Santa hats and then we would be able to recognise each other

I'd have to wear a very small Santa hat - I'd die of embarassment otherwise :hypno:

A small santa hat is less embarrassing than a large one??!!

Depends on how large - I can hide under a really large Santa (and then look like some sort of festive Dalek shuffling along)
