shortie Report post Posted March 24, 2007 If i can sort transport i'd love to come, never met any of you before but Oxford isn't that far away from me!!
David Matthew Baker Report post Posted March 24, 2007 What sort of time of day are you thinking about? I could get down and back for 47 by train by the look of things. That would be arriving at 2:14pm and leaving at 5:36pm. Could manage an earlier time by staying at Oxford YHA for the night for 20. Guess I'd be tempted to do that and make a weekend of it. If going to book though want to do it quickly so if you can finalise a date would be great. That way it will cost less and more likely to be able to get tickets. Certainly still interested. You can put me as a maybe but if tickets are still available almost certainly will be a yes.
smiley Report post Posted March 25, 2007 Put me down for an 'ish'....... Should be OK. What will we be doing? I'll have lil man with me - are we bringing kiddies or not??
oxgirl Report post Posted March 25, 2007 (edited) If we're bringing littlies, we could take a walk down to the colleges, nice walk along the river, see all the boats and duckies, have a picnic, something like that? Might want to wait until the weather is nicer for that though. ~ Mel ~ Edited March 25, 2007 by oxgirl
Suze Report post Posted March 25, 2007 ...............don,t think my son would survive the train, new place people etc, thats if he wanted to come anyway ................when I was checking train times yesterday he asked me what I was doing and when I told him he grimaced and said "bunch of saddos.............what you going to Oxford for .....DER! " So he,s better at home ...............with his dad .But meeting everyone elses kids would be good , I,m just not bringing mine.

David Matthew Baker Report post Posted March 25, 2007 Afraid I don't have any kids of my own. Now where could I nick some from. I don't mind either way. I like been around Kids and I sort of like meeting new people. For some reason when it is so out of the norm. (I.E. like this) I find it fairly easy. Ask me to meet a load of people I know and I'll often sit on one side and occasionally go and talk to small groups. Thrust me in somewhere unknown and I tend to land on my feet. Strange really. David Matthew Baker Report post Posted March 25, 2007 Pity I'm not closer. Would have been interested to meet Steven. He sounds like an interesting character. Also I get the impression helping him channel his energy into more productive and helpful pursuits could be a very hard, but ultimatelly, rewarding challenge. Have you looked considered looking to see if there is a Befriending Scheme in your area. It is a pity you can't find a local Police man/women to befriend him who might be able to change his interests into working on the side of the law rather than against it. Perhaps if the kids of some of the others do come you could bring him to Oxford. I'd have thought between us all we should be able to handle him. Could just picture us having to walk round restraining him. Anyone else planning on attending Team Teach trained? Hope the next few days with him go well. Your a star for managing as well as you do. What you manage considering the time your with him is nothing short of Amazing.
bikergal Report post Posted March 26, 2007 I could do April 28th, trouble is I'd have to get from Liverpool St to Paddington by tube and there's no way I'd do that on my own. Is there anyone else coming via London having to do the same? I'd really hate to miss out but I think I'd freak out on my own...help!
curra Report post Posted March 26, 2007 Id love to go too and I don't mind driving all the way from the south west, but it's only "maybe" because M hates going out. Or are you planning this meeting without kids??? Curra

David Matthew Baker Report post Posted March 26, 2007 thats not the word i would use david i will get chucked off the forum if i use my word I went for the diplomatic wording. I guess the other one would be 'headstrong with a strong passion for his interests'. I meant what I said though when I mentioned it would be interesting to meet him. At the special school I got on particularly well with the students in his age range across the full range of abilities. I can safely say that life was never boring with any of them. I liked that as I get bored when nothing is happening. That opinion would probably change if I had to manage with their antics all the time though. For short periods though I liked most of them. Wasn't keen on the tipping of a vacuum former or smashing a kettle all over the floor. Having said that the student came with me both times with out any further problems. I hope you've had an enjoyable day with out too many 'interesting' periods.

badonkadonk Report post Posted March 28, 2007 I was hoping to come along to the Oxford meet-up but the date you've picked is only a week before the Newcastle meet-up and I don't think my lil'Aspie head can cope with meeting lots of strangers and travelling to new places two weekends in a row. I have my heart set on going to Newcastle because I missed out on the last one so I'll just have to come to the next meet-up if you plan another after this! It's like I've got meet-up jet lag Hope you all have a good time anyway!! Emily xxx
David Matthew Baker Report post Posted March 28, 2007 Didn't look at the dates myself and notice they are so close together. Shouldn't cause me any problems. Will wait just to check there is no talk of changing them though before I book tickets. I think I will also book a couple of nights at the Oxford YHA. If need be I can also come and act as escort if anyone needs me to. I know there are a couple of people who might so far.
bikergal Report post Posted March 28, 2007 I'm still a maybe coz of the train thing (can't do the tube on my own)...but I haven't given up yet. National Express go via the airports so would take far too long. Only other option is to drive or persuade other half to drive with me!

David Matthew Baker Report post Posted March 28, 2007 I could probably come across to the station on the tube, as I plan on arriving the day before, and accompany you across. Not sure if that would help you or not. If this would help just let me know nearer the time and we can arrange it.
shell Report post Posted March 28, 2007 we could meet at the clock tower but that is really crowded so people might get lost in the crowd easy. another place is outside the ashmolem museum!!!! just trying to think of places that if u asked directions everyone would know

TheNeil Report post Posted March 28, 2007 You'll have to take me off the 'maybe' list and put me on the 'no' list. As Emily says, with Newcastle the following week, my Aspie brain couldn't take it either I'm sure you'll all have a fantastic time anyway
yoyo Report post Posted March 28, 2007 A suggestion for a picnic - Christ Church Meadow if the weather is ok. We used to go there every weekend when the boys were at school in Oxford. It's quiet and there is at least a mile of walking! The Botanical Gardens are at the Magdalen end and there is the Thames and the Cherwell for viewing rowing and punting respectively. I can't come up with anywhere indoors that's quiet for a group to chat etc- ?the Covered Market. I hope everyone has a good time. Yoyo

I'm indecisive too which is why I've stepped back when we're deciding where to go etc..... The only way I can cope is if someone else decides... or if I'm in charge I think the 6pm train is fine.... and even if everyone else goes I'll stay as I don't have far to go..... we might even fit in a couple of glasses of wine in a nice wine bar if you went a bit later..... What do you think of that idea???? Flozza.... I'm so excited about it
