Don't watch House myself, but it's funny how so many of these shows seem to have an 'autism episode'. I was watching Scrubs the other week and they had an autistic child on that as well.

I am dreading this episode having seen the trailer....

"He doesnt have Aspergers, he's just a jerk!"

Talk about bad timing, this is the day before J's apprenticeship interview at which we have fully disclosed his Aspergers.

Just hope none of the interview panel are House fans.

Pearl - i think that line isn't about the child with aspergers - they're talking about House....... i think!!

I like House - i'll be tuning in as usual :D

If I remeber I'll probably watch it. Quite like the bits of House I've seen. Could easily be a comment directed at him (House). I'll find out on Thursday. One of the better US dramas that 5 shows, at least in my book. :)

I must admit I found the trailer a bit stinging too. To me it seemed that they were saying House behaves in a particular way because he is a jerk, not because he has Aspergers. Suggesting that people with Aspergers behave like jerks? I am not sure about this. This is normally a brilliant programme though, so I am looking forward to Thursdays episode.

Even if they do pronounce it as Aspurrgurrs!

Yes I know but I still find the aspergers/jerk thing insulting & hope it won't prejudice anyone.

The House character, apparently, is based on the character of Sherlock Holmes (who also could be suspected of Aspergers). Nothing wrong with that, his spectrumy side is what makes him such a brilliant doctor, & I love the programme too, just wish it wasnt on this week! Mr pearl thinks I am worrying about nothing & I probably am.

Seen the trailer now. Yes the comment is directed at house but I also think it is quite insulting towards people with aspergers. I guess from the clip we are shown someone tries to diagnos House. If that is the case though I guess it is close to real life. How many times have I read on here about people having problems with others assuming that their children are naughty and it is just bad parenting. It sounds like the idea is written off without it been given a chance. Don't know enough about House to say whether he possibly is portrayed as someone who is on the autistic spectrum.

I didn't watch it either. I did however set my HDD/DVD recorder to record it. So can let you know at some stage if no one else does before that. I ended up watching an Inspector Alleyn Mystery I had recorded previously instead. Mum didn't sound interested in House but was up for a detective. As she has just got back after been away I decided to spend some time with her. Was nice to have company that it is easy to have a conversation with in the house again. My brother isn't really a talker. Well not without a fight or something he can insult you about. Saw my dad a few times too but conversations with him go the other way and you end up hearing about something in far more detail than you ever really want or need. Hence with him I can often end up rather bored. He never notices either. You have to make an excuse in the end to get away for a bit. I like seeing him but it is better when I can get him onto something I'm interested in. Also there is no easy purchase or anything with him. Everything has to be researched first. He has been talking of getting broadband for about 2 years. Thought we were getting somewhere as he'd got a router but he still won't commit to a provider yet.

EDIT: If people recommend it Hev I could easily send you a copy if your interested. I have 'After Thomas' on a recordable DVD somewhere too. Also have an interesting Teachers TV program about Autistic Spectrum Disorders.

I thought the kid was excellent, but as usual they produced the fingers down throat moment at the end when he gave his treasured computer game to House (as if) would have been more realistic if the kid had thumped him

Some difficult questions explored, like, were the parents poisoning the kid as the strain of looking after him was too much? (they werent)

They only explored House's possible Aspergers right at the end, & I thought it was treated v flippantly. Yes you can have AS AND be a jerk but it was the assumption one could be mistaken for the other I found insulting.

I thought it was brilliant. The parents anguish and confusion was not over done and the little boy was obviously directed by someone who knew their stuff.

like marmite house has 2 distinct camps

last nights episode was excellent][imho] in openness about the frustration of caring for a person with long term additional needs who can give nothing back and direction of characters. also the assumtion that because A acts like B then they must be the same. at least it wasnt another 'show us his special trick' rainman upchucker

house himself is a jerk, an anal, stubborn, misogynistic, overbearing, hyperintelligent, non socially skilled, jerk, and guess what, to the uninitiated that just about sums up our AS kids and adults.

house's comment at the end about who's the bigger jerk, the one who knows he's one, or the one wasting time in telling him how and why he's being one? was much more telling than yet another dr misdiagnosing to be honest

phas jr watched it, ready to be full of rightuos indignation over more stereotyping, yet in the end turned and said'only and autistic family can truly know about that episode' now thats the view from someone on the spectrum himself, perhaps a more insightful view than us looking from the other side of the glass being indignant over nothing

to be honest i found the dramatisation about the life of the jackson family and the lovey dovey ending in that more sick making and unrealistic, and after thomas much more damaging [ lets all get a golden retriever and cure our kids :wallbash: ] than house last night

Hev, House is a brilliant, spectrumy doctor who specialises in solving rare mystery diseases. The kid in question last night just happened to have autism, but he had little wormy things migrating everywhere from eating sand too which is what House diagnosed. They also used the episode to explore House's possible Asperger syndrome.

Could I just add, for the record, I really really fancy House

I like House too!!

I watched that episode over a year ago now and have watched the repeat too.

House is definitely an Aspie according to Wilson. :notworthy::lol: I think House portrays an Aspie to a T and my sons specialist Paediatrician I am sure is an Aspie and he is a lot like House, in terms of medical 'genius' his track record or saving lives is quite profound and many talk about him over here, my sons Paediatrician that is.. House is one of my sons favourite shows too.

I liked the ending, the boy giving House his gameboy, I believe it signified 'someone understood him,' and could relate to him.

Like Phas Junior said only a family involved with ASD or AS would connect with that.

PS Hello Mrs Phasmid, >:D<<'> it is lovely to see you back. :)

I think House is very attractive too! But strangely enough Hugh Laurie does nothing for me. Anyone seen the Stuart Little films? Or Blackadder? Jeeves and wooster? In fact everything else he has ever been in. He is a great actor though and probably a very nice man!

Yes, he only floats my boat as House, too.

To think his American career started with Stuart Little.

Apparently he's extremely prone to depression. He's working in the US a lot now because of House and rarely sees his family. I read a piece about him recently and it seems that he'd only done the pilot for House on a whim and hadn't read through the small print. He'd only expected it to last as long as the pilot, nobody thought it would be the success it is. So now he's stuck in the States, working all the hours God sends, with people he doesn't like (and he admits to being rotten and miserable on set), so he's not a happy chappy.

Still, he does have nice eyes though.

He played the father to boy and mouse in both films.

I liked the films, but sadly neither of my children do!
