  1. Congrats to the pregnancy and heres to a nice text book one
  2. Hey that is great news and it gives me hope then at least because we also did the 're-consideration' thing.
  3. Aww sweet...this has just reminded me of my major obsession with the cartoon 'the rugrats' I was soooo obsessed with these from the age of 12 right through to being 19 years old! I bought over 1000 worth of rugrats related things and would cloect anything that had even a picture of them on it. I would talk about the rugrats all the time...did school projects on the rugrats. used to talk to my friends about them...lol I grew out of that but it just again makes me think why school/6th form did not ever think this was abnormal. I mean a couple of times i would go into class (6th form when i had some money) with santa sized bags full of rugrat dolls toys etc...but people just used to laugh and think it was sweet etc!! To me it was something I had to do because i was obsessed...lol My obsession that i have had since the earliest age and sometimes even are human eyes when they are unconcious/asleep!! I have no idea why but it is something i have known since being a young child. I also like to find answers to peoples problems and wont stop until i find it. I also like leanring about medical/surgical problems. I used to read books on illness's when i was a kid and i watch all the medical tv programmes. I obsess when someone is ill and try to find out what the cuase is etc.
  4. I agree that he does display some of the traits for sure. I also feel that poor kinga is very mush so ADHD....
  5. If he is anything like I was as a kid then he must be feeling kinda excited about the potential prospect of the theme park Camealot is a great place and there is soo much to do. They have there own website and maybe it will tell you a bit more about the place. It will of course be peak season and so this place will be very busy indeed. If he likes the ideas of fun fair rides and watching jowling events then his mind should be distracted. I dont understand though why they will not allow you to go with him! Have you spoke to ds about all of this yet? If so what is he saying about it? Does your ds have AS od ASD?
  6. Like I said in my earlier post earplug were and still are the norm for me and I can not go anywhere with out them. I use them to sleep, I use them to study and in extreme moments i use them to block all sound during stressful times (of course not in pblic though because that is why we have fingers...lol) I use blue tac it is cheap and fantastic and sooo much better than the regular commercial stuff
  7. I am from Lancashire, northwest england
  8. Hi I am 24 female with diagnosed AS (was diagnosed 2 months ago). I also have adhd and dyslexia. From what I know not every one with aspersger show all the same or similar traits? I have always felt really confused because some of the common traits gordie mentioned dont seem to fit with me diagnosis I have an imagination and I can play pretend play if i have to. Like with my daughter who is 4 i will pretend to be a princess or a pony etc... That really above is my only worry about my AS is that i dont think i actually have a problem when it comes to imagination. I could write fantasy storys as a kid. Also another thing with me is trying to understand what people actually mean when they say they 'dont understand how people feel'? I dont have a problem with that either. I meanwhen someone is crying i know they are sad and when someone. Like when I go to funerals i know that again people are very sad. Is that the thing that you mean?
  9. Hi thanks agin everyone for the warm welcome and im pleased that i have been able to give some people insight into how life has been during my school years (although the stuff i mentioned it literally only about 1% of the way school was for me, i could of gone on forever but there is just to much).
  10. Hi welcome to the boards im also new to here and im also an adult with AS! For things to do on my own I tend to spend most of it on the internet i could live on the internet. I especially like to find out more about my own conditions and tend to read alot of information on adhd. Not quite got to AS as yet because it was only recnetly diagnosed. I find the weather very interesting (but then dont most people in the uk..lol...it always pops up in topic conversation at least once a day). The weather intrests me when it is bad. I like tracking storms on the internet.
  11. Hey there Lemony, I have only just found this place also (exactly 24 hours ago to be exact) and have to say that it is a great place and you get very fast reponses from very caring and understanding people. I am an adult with AS, ADHD and dysleixa. Hey I totally understand about the education issues but on the bright side you fought a winning battle up to now right! Im just pleased that he will be getting the help he needs. The earlier the better.
  12. It could just be down to his autism because I know that certain sounds make me feel angry and I sometimes put my fingers in my ears. I think sensitive hearing is more my problem though. I cant stand anyone that crunches food near to me. I cant stand any sound at all when i go to bed and for the past 12 years i have slept with ear plugs. I cant stand background noise when i try to read at home or at uni and so again put my fingers in my ears. So I think it may just be down to his AS. He has also perhaps goten used to familar nosies and routines around your house and when someone visits then to him it is like the world has ended because maybe he was not expected them people around or to make the sounds they do.
  13. Again to the others that have welcomed me aboard thanks waccoe I just decided about 2 months into my course that maybe I could ask for some extra time in my exams because of my ADHD (AS was not diagnosed at that point amd nor was dyslexia). I felt so uncomfortable and akward trying to explain what ADHD was and how it affected my studys at times (like being able to concentrate etc). I then had to go through internal assessments via the educational psychologist at uni and it was there that they also diagnosed my dyslexia (i finally had an excuse all these years for my spelling being as poor as it was!) and said that my IQ was above average and i was on the 91st centile (whatever that means). So waccoe the answe i guess is no it was me that made the move and i am pleased that i did it (although at times it has not mean as smooth going as i would of liked). I agree that it is very much so possible with the right help for people with AS to get through uni. I just hope that it is alot easier for your kids than it was for me. But hey universitys are getting better and better these days! Finally! I also find it real tough right now to decide what area of law I wish to work in. However I have it in my head (subject to change of course..lol) that family law would be a good one to choose. I say this because the cases in family law do not involve an over whelming amout of people because matters in family law tend to be dealt with in confined rooms or small court rooms. Also if a case was to go to the crown court then it would be ok because i would not need to talk because that will be the job of the barrister. I also like the idea of education law, however since I have not touched upon this area in my course then i would need to read more into it. Education law sounds interesting because it will involve kids and dults that are suffering discrimination because of their special needs. I just wish that I had of been more educated as a child because my schools could of been in alot of trouble. TuX I did not get to see much on that because but it would of been alot better if there was an actual footage shot of it in action. I just love to track hurricances more than anything though. I go to a website call wunder and that is where i get all my fun. There is curently no tropical cyclones at the moment though so it is pretty quite. Nice to know that you also have AS and adhd like me. What age did you get diagnosed with both then? Also Admum small world huh Thanks for the kind words. Im just dreading the LPC!
  14. Hey this is sooo true when it comes to adults being left untreated or wrongly diagnosed. I was diagnosed as having a personality disorder as a teen when infact it was actully primarily down to the fact that my severe adhd had been left untreated and undiagnosed for too long and it rendered me as being diagnosed with other dconditions because they could never pin point my odd erratic behaviour/symptons.
  15. Hi, I am not sure if this is an AS thing or not but when I was 11 (im now 24 and have AS, ADHD and dyslexia) I only ever remember swearing like that once and that was to my dad and i told him to f-off. I never swore at my dad again after that ill tell you...lol I did however (as I aged to to mid teens) begin with that behaviour with my mum. I would mainly put that though down to untreated ADHD. As for your daughter has she ever been thought to have ADHD? It is just a thought and sometimes it is worth asking the most obvious questions first before trying with other less obvious reasons.
  16. Hi Penny nice to meet you and as you refer in your post to newbies I thought I would take the opportunity to say 'Hi' You may have already read my post but if not in a nutshell im an adult with AS, ADHD and Dysleixa and only just found this great place tonight.
  17. Wow thankyou so much for making me feel so welcome to this place already. I got some happy feelings from reading what you have said. I will be sure to keep an eye out for other adults with AS, but I like the idea of giving my perspective and advice (if i can) on things for parents with AS kids and even those parents with un-diagnosed AS. My AS sadly has only just been diagnosed. Infact it was dianosed just under 2 months ago! I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 17 (and like I said im now 24). I was diagnosed with dyslexia during the first year of my law degree (at the age of 21). Bid, sadly school was awful for me as far back as I can remember in primary school I was always in trouble for doing naughty things. I was never agressive towards others in my primary school years, I just used to be very insecure because no one wanted to play with me and most never liked me apart from the odd person. They (peers) used to take advantage of me and i used to get the blame for things i sometimes did not do. Teachers used to think I had hearing problems because they said that I did not repond to them and made my mum take me for testing which came back normal. I just wanted people to like me and so would do anything for them pr if i was asked to do something then i would. I was the best reader in my primary years and advanced in that respect. I just found it hard to get my peers to like me or treat me as an equal. My mum, to this day never fully understood how hard it was for me at primary school. I never knew it would get worse at secondary school! I do not know if this is AS or ADHD but I would have unnatural attachments to my teachers and want to hug them and hold there hands and get one to one time with them. I was 8 and I would have to hug my yr 3 teacher everyday after school (and even kiss her!). I guess the word is loving child but the fact that I would just do that is a worry when i look back. As for secondary school well this is when I just fell to pieces. I produced very odd behaviour throughout my time there (not giving eye contact, hiding my head in my school bag throughout some lessons, being shouted at made me run away and out of class etc etc). I was almost statmented and think we got up to a stage 3 or 4 but i got sent to a day unit at the local child psycharity department and was never allowed to return. It is sad that throughout my school years not once did anyone diagnois me with ADHD, AS etc when all the issues that they were facing with me were pretty much textbook diagnosis My parents went through hell with me and my secondary school and tohers wrote me of for suceeding in anything in life. I did not start 6th form until I was 17 but after one year of doing a a foundation course they said i was bright enough to jump straight to advanced level BTEC. I came out of that with majority distictions! It was hard going for me but i did it. Then I started my law degree and it was only in the first year that I finally discovered how I needed extra help and that is what I got. I was/am entitled to 50% extra time in exams, use of a latop in class, use of a dictaphone in class. I also get an hour a weeks of disabilty support. I am now about to start my post grad diploma in legal practice (which starts in sept and ends in june) and after that I will be able to get a job as a trainnee solictor (hopefully). It will be harder for me to get the job than most because I am not so good with spontainious interaction. If you want to know any more specfic questions then please do ask. I am pleased that your 16 year old is wanting to go to university. He will enjoy it and depending on which uni he goes to he will be entitled to help from a disability worker that works just with Aspergers.
  18. Thanks for your responses. So it does seem apparant to me that those of you with kids that have AS or Dyspraxia seem to face similar issues. I agree it that it was wrong for the teacher to say what she did now I look back at it. My question now is...what age does the 'normal' child begin this? Is the an age that they should be doing it by? Because from the teachers reaction you would of guessed so! It would be interesting to hear from those of you with kids that are 'normal' as to how they managed and wby what age. Thanks again.
  19. Luna is I feel on the spectrum for sure
  20. Hi I was wondering if someone could give insight as to this inability I used to face. I remember being in the top class of infants (6 - 7 year olds) and being told by my teacher that she was shocked that i could not tie them at my age. Could someone tell me what age a child should learn to tie there laces? Is this a potential early sign of aspergers (one of many that the school did not pick up on)?
  21. As a kid before my diagnosis's I used to be pre-scribed Vallergan forte (a sedative used in kids that itch thier skin alot or have general sleeping issues, although it is not recommended for those who also take stimulant medications) and it used to help me sleep. It used to be in liquid form.
  22. That is great news and what a releif that must be for you.

    No DLA

Hi I am new here but I just thought I'd add my little contribution to this post (i love the smilies btw) I have also ben tunred down for DLA and have decided to go through the 'reconsideration' before appealing (if it comes to that). I did not fill in part 2 of the DLA forms and took the option of the medical assessment (never again through). I feel it was the actual doctor that botched up my claim because he just seemed to want to get home for his tea and did not understand what ADHD even was!! I hope to hear about my 'reconsideration' in a few weeks time.
  24. Please can you tell me if this forums is for adults as well as children? Are there any other adults on here with AS? I am a law post-grad student aged 24 with ADHD, AS, Dyslexia and i sometimes get depressed. I like keeping track of the weather especially extreme types like hurricanes in the USA. I find them interesting.
