Hi JsMum Thanks. It's just all so confusing I don't know what to believe from school anymore

Hi JsMum Hope things are getting better for you both <'> <'> <'> <'> <'> <'>

I am so confused. At the end of the last school year we had a parents evening at Z's school and were told how well she was doing in school. She has a lot of lessons in the SENCO dept. Her maths teacher was apparently really pleased with the progress she was making. All said then WHY when she had some maths homework tonight was she back to 7+5 and 6+9. Z is 12 and in year 8, mainstream school and doesn't seem to be progressing at all. How do I find out, honestly, what progress (if any) she has made and if there is no progress what do I do?????? I am so worried as next year is her options year and then she'll be woking towards GCSE's, in which the SENCO reckons she will maybe be able to attain Grade E in her good subjects.

Lovin this Some of Z's things are: Will not tuck in school shirt (Too unconfortable) Will not take a shower unless told Will not brush teeth without full scale riot Doesn't like being touched but will come for a hug at the most inappropriate times (ie-when I'm real busy or on the loo) Hates loud noises, suden noises but will constantly bang doors Never stops talking about horses, riding etc Can't hear me when it's bed-time but can hear a crisp packet rustle from 100yards She is like a magpie. We put something down, she picks it up (without us seeing) and whatever it is ends up in her room Also hoards like a squirrel The list is endless

GOOD LUCK in Bristol Hope things settle down soon

Hi Z got her full dx age 10/11 and I just sat her down one day after a meltdown(that is once she was calm enough to be sat down) and told her the reason she did things like this were because............ I also told her it was a reason for it happening and not an excuse for it. We went into all the "yes you are different" chit-chat but pointed out that everyone is different in one way or another and what a boring world we would live in if everyone was the same, liking the same things. Tried to keep it light and easy for her to understand and seemed to get some of what I was saying through to her. She hasn't really said much about it since but she just kind of shuts these things out of her head. She doesn't quetion things and has never asked "Why?" Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones in that she doesn't question things but she does say that she just wants to be normal. Soz for waffling Zosmum

Maybe you should try a quick phone call in a day or 2. They can put you off a lot easier on-line Be firm but polite Good Luck

Assessment roller coaster continues.....update
Zosmum replied to Karen A's topic in General Discussion
Oh Karen I really feel for you When Z was 5 we were told she had dyspraxia and that was the cause of all her problems but (why is there always a "but") when as she went through school it became more obvious there was more to it than that. It took another 5-6 years of assessments, appointments etc to finaly be told she had ASD,ADHD,Dyspraxia and complex learning difficulties. All I can say is hold tight for the long ride down off this coaster. It could be long and bumpy but you will get through this. Good Luck with everything Zosmum -

Are all schools the same????? I was told Z was doing well settling in last year (Ha!Ha!) That soon got blown out of the water The SENCO told us that Z wasn't to bad as she doesn't sit rocking back and forth drooling She hates school, the teachers, the TA's in fact everything to the extent that we often get refusals to even try to go They just don't seem to listen Do the schools seem to just want the extra funding and aren't bothered about the kids or what?

No we don't have a social worker or anything like that How do you get the help?
