  1. Hiya ADHD was picked up first with us but it was very severe that it overrode everything else. Once on meds his aspergers showed up more. I find the conditions very different in my son and the problems we had were caused by not understanding his autism and putting it all down to his adhd whereas his asd problems have to be treated differently to his adhd, if that makes sense!!! He was also thought of as having ODD but having recently been dx with the aspergers can now see that its not ODD but his aspergers being treated the wrong way leading to most of his frustration. Personnaly I do find them very different in the ways they have to be approached but they are similar as in the circumstances our children are put into without being dx properly. Behaviour issues can seem very similar as alot of these children are been treated as NT typical kids and alot cannot handle this and of course react with 'bad' behaviour. Hope my ramblings here make sense!!!!! xxxx
  2. Hi clever people!! Anyone know what adware is on a pc? My antivirus mcafee brings it up as a potentially unwanted program and asks if I want to remove it. It rings a bell but cant think what it is and cant find anything on pc about it... Dont want to go removing things that have a purpose!! Thanks
  3. Hi Yes LEA's can over rule, we have just had this. Schools cannot say they cannot take a child because of special needs, they are breaking the law. Howver like the others have said, why would you want to put your child there? The primary school our ds was transferring up to said the same and the LEA said he could go there if that was my choice. In the end I sent him to a different school anyway, one that wanted him.
  4. The Education Reform Act (1988) requires that schools do not charge for activities that take place wholly or mainly during school hours. The school may ask for a 'vouluntary' contribution though and cannot exclude your child in activities within school hours. xx
  5. Hi Guys Havnt been on for a while but you all know how hectic it sometimes gets. I have been thinking of setting up a support group for adhd, asd and aspergers as there isnt really a local one to me. This would be in the East Northamptonshire area , if there is anyone interested then let me know on here or through a pm or email. Also if anyone has experience in this all suggestions welcome!!!! As said this is a thought at the mo to gage whether there is the interest .. Thanks Charlene xx
  6. Hiya Does your son have a statement is the first question I would ask you. If he does when is the annual review. You can call an emergency annual review if its not soon. We have just gone through this with my son only having 15 hours a week. I was looking at a special school myself but his statement wasnt high enough. He had band d and he needed band e for a special school. We have just got the hours upped and is now full time statment. We have decided to keep him in mainstream as we are changing schools and I felt he deserved the chance with the extra help. From our experience special school recommandation comes from the higher authorities but believe me if you push hard enough on the right people then hopefully you will get somewhere. Just look at whether you think he needs a special school of whether with more lsa help he could achieve more. xx
  7. Hi I had my 2 done without a second thought. I dont believe that it made any difference to my son and DS2 is ok. Ds 1 was also a difficult baby and toddler before the vaccination. He also had whooping cough at 18 months , although vaccinated and could have died if he hadnt been so to be honest I wouldnt put my child at risk of anything else that could put him in the same situation again. As has been said above I would rather have him here with his condition than risk his life. My thoughts only, not meant to influence anyone or upset anyone. xx
  8. Well we received our script for melatonin yesterday for ds 1 3mg. We gave it at 7.40pm, then both kids went up at 8.10pm. Well......usually we are up and down the stairs like yoyos, you know the scenario. Last night , nothing....silence, OH crept upstairs at 8.45pm and both kids sparko!!!! DS1 normally up till 10.30pm and ds2 plays up cause ds1 is awake. Dare I hope this is working, I was nearly in tears as he has been asking for something to help him sleep for ages... Fingers crossed for later. xx

Hiya No it isnt unreasonable, this what they should be doing now and they will know this. Every school gets given a budget for SEN but will probably give the reason they dont have funds. This however is not your problem it is theirs. We were in the same situation and the area manager for education went into our school and basically gave them a ticking off. As said above they need to be putting these measures in place or a statement maybe turned down as they havnt done enough. Start pushing them and get some answers. Good luck xx
  15. Hiya We went through the statementing process at the summer holiday time as well last year. I was told by the teachers that its not done through the holidays and then told that the lea do work through the hols. The difficult bit is getting hold of the school during the hols. I think our teachers concerned couldnt be bothered really. It did go through in the end and only one part was a few days behind schedule. Ring them up and ask.. xx
  16. Hi folks Sorry if this has been asked before. My son has food intolerances to artificial colours and msg. I also miss out aspartame as read that its associated with msg. I have done this myself by missing out certain foods etc.. I was wondering if i am missing any other general food additive which can cause food intolerances or a product that is misleading i.e I was told minstrels had colourings in them which you would never think about. Sorry if the post is a bit vague but i am sure you clever people get the jist. thank you all xx
  17. Hello all Well we had a very nice meeting and the lady we dealt with was really lovely. Result.. we have an unofficial dx of aspergers with possibilities of dyslexia as well as his adhd. It was nice to be listened to and she wants to get to the bottom of everything so we can help him. The only downside is she will be sending in an observer to school which with the end of term nigh it wont be till september but perhaps I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. She is also sending us a perscription for melatonnin so fingers crossed that will help him at night. I will probably be asking loads of questions soon enough now i have something else to research!!! Thank you all for the good luck wishes, you are a wonderful bunch. xx
  18. HIya After a long wait we finally have our meeting with CAFS monday regarding my adhd son who I believe has asd as well. Worried in case we come out no better off...I just want to know exactly what difficulties he has... Oh it never stops does it?! xx
  19. They can either use the money for an LSA or a teacher. Teachers cost more money so hours would be alot less. My son was band d and got 15 hrs lsa support, this has just been increased to band e which is about 25 hours. To be honest its probably not gonna be many hours. It should state within his needs when and how he needs help. x
  20. i dont know that way round as all this asd is new to me but ADHD can have comorbid conditions like asd and aspergers, odd etc. I thought that my son was odd but now I think that it is the un dx asd that causes him his problems(he is dx ADHD) and it is that that needs to be addressed. x
  21. Hiya My partner went for an ADHD assessment recently and they came up with a dx of that and aspergers which was quite a shock. He is still going through assessments. It depends on the region you are in if you get asssessed. What he wants to achieve is a reason for the way he has been for the last 37 years and an explanation so he can then work on it. If you are quite happy as you are then an assessment isnt going to do anything for you, if you think you need help then follow it through. xx
  22. Hi all I posted a while back and still awaiting that referral for the asd with his teacher and ed pysch saying he doesnt display asd traits!! All I say is try living with him. Meanwhile my partner went for an adhd referral and they are investigating this and also said he maybe aspergers which came as a total shock to him and us although makes sense now. So can asd and aspergers be genetic like adhd? as both son and partner are like 2 peas in a pod!!! Hope you are all keeping well. I tried to come on a while ago but was shut because of the hacker thing. xx
  23. The meeting went really well and the lady was really nice and understood exactly where I was coming from. She knew loads and said that the asd made sense so have to wait about 4 weeks. She asked what I wanted and I didnt know!!! Never asked for anything before! It was so nice for someone just to understand the condition and what our kids and families go through day to day.
  24. Have back from my paed and she agrees its worth looking into further, however I have to wait for an appointment from CAFS who she has referred me to so might be in for a long wait!!
  25. I sent off for family fund in jan, today i received a letter saying they will be in touch and they just ran and coming tomorrow at 2.30pm. House is a mess and panicking like mad to find all the info they want!!
