    medication

HI all, Our gp thinks my son (Aspergers) should be on medication as he is not coping in school. We are not keen on this and doubt my son will go for it. The psychologist and psychiatrist do not seem to keen either. Any advice would be grateful. Theresa

    Introductions!!

HI and welcome to anyone new.
  8. Hi all , My son had homework tonight in which he had to pretend he had a penpal and send this penpal a postcard,he found it too difficult to do and after an hour he had only 7 lines done ( the teacher wanted two pages-Large postcard!?). Anyhow I had to give him a note to excuse him from this homework, The school told me to do this if he gets blocked as he sometimes does. K told me that while he can write (wonderful- I think) stories about any sort of fantasy aliens, monsters etc. he has trouble trying to imagine real life situations if it isn't actually happening to him. He was wondering if anyone else with ASD/Aspergers has this problem.

    Introductions!!

Hi to all new members, Welcome. Martina. I have three teens 18yr old boy and 16yr old girl both NT and 14 yr old boy with Aspergers and dyspraxia. My son was also only recently diagnosed after years of no (then false) diagnosis I'm also from Ireland and live in Dublin. I totally agree the psychological support here for kids with aspergers is non existent! I have been told there is none and have been left to get on with it. Look forward to your posts.

    Is this legal

    Sorry I'm lost for words!!!
  17. I too worry about what I have agreed to as next year my son's timetable could be different, but the school have been very helpful and they did ask us what my son would prefer and he wanted to stay at home as he would come to the attention of other kids if he was in school but not in PE
  18. My son has been excused from PE and he stays home as it is first thing monday morning. I can understand where you are all coming from as regards the school but my son and I are just delighted he does not have to do PE. So I do understand how BJG feels.
  19. Hi LKU, sorry things didn't go well for you, I have been to meetings like that don't let them get you down hang on in there. Good luck and take care.
  20. Hi Auriel, My son has not had a haircut for over 2 years. He is 14 and has shoulder length hair. How long is yours?
  21. Annie I am so angry at the way your son is being treated that there is steam coming from my ears My 14 yr old son as I said before is fairly well supported in the school he is in now although there is the odd thing I worry about. When he was in primary school they treated him exactly the way your son is being treated now. He had that treatment from age 8-12 and he still talks about it sometimes and has no happy memories of the school at all. What is happening with your son brings it all back to me and I could just cry for him. I hope things get better for him soon neither of you deserve this.

    School

Hi Helen, Sorry should have said they did offer him the study hall. My son is doing very well in school with general studies, classes are graded and he is in the top one, so we thought he may get bored as PE is over two 40 minute classes.( when he gets bored he gets giddy and frustrated) He wouldn't want to be with a strange group of kids in another class. Also my son did not want to be asked a lot of questions by fellow classmates about why he was in the study hall, so the school councellor gave us a choice. next year if timetables change he may have to stay in during PE
  23. Hi Kathryn. No advice to give I'm afraid. Medication was once mentioned to my son as an option for the future and he refused point blank and said he will never take any kind of drugs. I can only imagine what you are going through. My son is getting very difficult to manage in certain situations so I may have this battle ahead. Just wanted to send you these. <'> <'> <'>

    School

HI all, Just wanted to share a bit of good news. I had a parent/teacher meeting yesterdayand it went very well. Most of the teachers seem to be aware that we are in the early processes of getting a diagnoses of Aspergers and that my son has dyspraxia. His English teacher has said he can do his written homework assignments on the PC (until we get something put in place for school like a laptop, which the school will supply when we get written dx) and the PE teacher has excused him from PE because of his difficulties with motor skills,as he has PE first thing on Monday morning he will probably stay at home until after PE. All of his teachers were very supportive and said they will be keeping a discreet eye on him to make sure he is doing well emotionly as he is doing well in his schoolwork.
