I thought the article was good and may well see if I can get hold of the book. Like Pearl I think I have thought of Aspergers as 'mild' autism but it isn't really and it makes out that it is less of an issue than it really is. Can also identify with the food things as well.................. M will only eat Heinz Baked Beans, he can tell if they are not. and once he has tasted something somewhere he will only eat it if it is exactly the same as it was there (which I can never manage!)

I think it is a fantastic idea!! I would like to see more help and support for parents of children who are dx and their siblings as well and possible more feedback and support for mainstream schools where there are children with ASD. I wish you every luck with it!

I am left handed and so are both my boys! I don't use anything different to right handed people and neither do my boys.................... I found that if people tried to make me do something different when I was younger it didn't help me at all and I actually do quite a lot of things with my right hand!! I wouldn't worry about getting left handed gadgets etc it is not worth the money and is not necessary.

Karen that is fantastic!!!!! It sounds like it is a really well run scheme and they have put a lot of thought and effort into accomodating J's needs. I wish all places were like that - wouldn't it make all our lives a lot easier??!!!! At least you know that he is going to be ok and enjoy himself now. Pearl has just told me about this thread and we live near each other!!!! Could I join in as well?? Could do 20th Oct, not sure as to whether or not the boys are with me or their dad that weekend but no other plans. I would only do a day trip as I am only an hours drive away and would want to see how the boys were as well! Sue x

The babysitter I had been using when I was going to college to do my NVQ has been extremely tolerant with Mike but he has got worse over the last 6 months. The last time she babysat she rang me to say that her and Chris were in the utility room cos Mike couldn't find a toy he wanted and was trashing the place.............. when I got home it was like a bomb site! How do you get a babysitter when you have child who is prone to temper tantrums like that!!!!

It is alright to feel like this!!!! All the posts I seem to have done so far have been cos I am miserable and upset so that makes two of us!!!!! My ex had an affair when I was pregnant with M nearly 9 years ago and he left me when M was 5 weeks (and I found out!). Since then (despite marrying her and having 2 more children) he seems to be hell bent on making my life a misery. He has even told me that he is not a babysitter for when I want to go out! He seems to hate it when I have a partner (forever putting me down and trying to find fault with everything I do) as well. The boys are getting to the point where they don't like going to their dad's cos he is always slagging me off in front of them and being horrible to them.
