  1. Rhodri absolutely LOVES holidays-its almost his obsession.I think that he likes the fact that we are unhurried. We went for a week this year-but he wants to go for 2 next year.he enjoys being in a mobile home.xx
  2. Rhodri has an Andrex puppy-but only because Rhys does.xx
  3. Have a great break.I won't tell you who wins because I don't watch BB.xx
  4. So sweet!!! Rhodri is convinced that we live in an undersea world and that I'm a starfish and Daady is a crab!!!xx
  5. Hope that the feedback is useful.xx
  6. Good on you,Viper. She'll adjust in time. She'll find that breathing easily ISN'T overrated!!!xx
  7. Many congratulations.What excellent news.xx
  8. Yes,I too,thought it might be that school.xx
  9. Long may this continue.xx
  10. My son also thinks that people are laughing at him.I'm thinking of writing a social story to explain 'Why people laugh'.xx
  11. My experience has been very positive;now we've met the criteria. They are paying for a 2 week playscheme and also for 10 hours a week care (2 hours after School each day). This is more than I thought that I'd get and wiil be really helpful. Most SS depts operate some sort of eligibility criteria to determine who can access support.xx
  12. Great result. Now to get my forms off in the post---xx
  13. I have a 17 yo dyslexic daughter with Asthma, too. She does take her meds seriously now because she still does a lot of sport and gets exercise-induced symptoms, too. I think that they hate a fuss about anything at that age.Hope the GP can make her see sense.xx
  14. Ilive in Emsworth,Hampshire. The LEA tried their hardest to be difficult but we got the excellent Special School that we wanted for our son.xx
  15. I don't think there is a standard age;one of my children did it at 4 and then helped the teacher in reception tie everyone's laces!!!(She's actually been dx dyslexic at 16),my 7 yo with ASD just hasn't a clue,my other 4 were all somewhere in between.xx
  16. Glad that you won your transport battle.xx
  17. Welcome,Lemony.I'm Kris,Mum of 6,including Rhodri with ASD.xx
  18. Sending positive vibes and twinkly hugs.xx
  19. I have one awaiting GCSE results and one awaiting AS results. I'm glad that teachers have training days and have been a parent speaker at some of them to discuss the impact of living with a child with ASD to the professionals.the training that they do can boost their expertise in different things and I,for one, want teachers and LSA's to have opportunities to become Autism aware. I even got a one-off payment as a casual tutor but I would have done it for nothing.Theevaluations at the end showed thqat the teachers found our session really useful.xx
  20. The idea of ASD was first mooted by the SALT when Rhodri was in a Special School nursery(due to a language disorder).I then went home and read the first ever SALT report I'd received (written by a different SALT when Rhodri was 3) and it said quite clearly 'Social interaction and communication skills are disordered'. Funnily enuogh,Rhodri has been dx as having both an ASD and a separate language disorder.xx
  21. That's wonderful.I hope that you all have a wonderful holiday.xx
  22. My children were sometimes in mixed year groups in Infant School. It didn't seem to cause any problems, since good teachers will group children according to ability,so they do work appropriate to their own abilities. This seems a common practice in some areas.xx
  23. I would contact IPSEA for advice.Educating your son separately to the extent that the School are suggesting is not the same thing as 1-1;it is rather like an internal exclusion-he will not be mixing with ANYONE,therefore isolating him even further. If the LEA want your son to attend the unit, then they should be able to arrange transport and an escort for him.xx
  24. I belong to a local Support group, which is superb. It was set up in 2000 and has gone from strength to strength. We have;- Coffee mornins/evenings A lending library of books,videos,DVD's,CD-roms relating to ASD;'s Phone support Talks by various speakers Sibling support groups Outings for families parties/fireworks/picnics. Etc. We started with coffee mornings and grew from there. In the coming weeks we have a BBQ at a local country park,a Siblings' Drama workshop and a trip to Legoland Windsor. We have also hired a local Arts Centre and put on a private showing of a film.We recently has an Autism advocate to talk about planning for your child's future. I'd start infomally and see how things develop. We're now a registerd charity and support over 100 families. The group is a real lifeline for me but its horses for courses and what suits one person may not suit another.xx
