suzy27 Report post Posted October 1, 2007 Hi Everyone, I have been reading this forum for a while now and decided that i wanted to join it now. I havent been formally diagnosed with AS but i feel i have all the traits and i am waiting to see a specialist about getting a diagnosis. Since i was a kid i have always known there was something different about me - I never really managed to get on with people my own age and had a lot of problems at school with being bullied. I left school at 16 because i couldnt cope with it any longer and had my first bout of depression but i always felt it was more than just that. Im 27 now and at the moment i just cant seem to find myself a job that i can do. I dont feel comfortable meeting new people or chatting. Anyway im going to stop rambling. paulathomson Report post Posted October 1, 2007 hi, like everyone said you will meet some lovely people on here and its great for advice. i too have always known that i am different and unable to fit in sometimes. over the years though i have become adept at being 'normal' and its my anxiety that lets the world know that im not as normal as the rest. my son has been dx'd with aspergers and now i am seeking my own help. i am mainly getting referred to psych for anxiety but i will ask for an assessment of adult AS. without this site and my son's fab consultant, i would never know why i am like am i and would probably spend the rest of my life in turmoil. now i finally feel as if i fit somewhere. hope you get sorted soon. best wishes. paula
suzy27 Report post Posted October 1, 2007 Hi Everyone, Thanks to everyone who has replied to my message. I just phoned the place in Glasgow that diagnosis AS to ask them if they had recieved my refferal from the doctor and to ask them if they are going to see me and they said they are - They have a procedure that they look at new cases coming in and discuss them every tuesday so i was a bit worried that they might think i was wasting there time and also if the doctor had enough information about my past because i have just recently joined that practice. Im happy to have come this far, its a relief to be taking a step closer to finding out. I was just wondering if there were any other people on here that are from glasgow that have been diagnosed?????????????????????? Suz
Tally Report post Posted October 1, 2007 (edited) Hi Suzy, I am a 26-yr-old with Asperger's. I got the diagnosis earlier this year. I'm not in Glasgow, and I ended up having to go private to get the diagnosis, so I don't really know what you should expect. You're definitely not wasting anyone's time. I hope you get an appointment soon! Im happy to have come this far, its a relief to be taking a step closer to finding out. Oh yes, I felt exactly the same way! T. suzy27 Report post Posted October 1, 2007 Hi Tally, I could not afford to go private but i managed to find that place in glasgow on the internet and they were so helpful. They said hopefully mid November or December i should get an appointment which is fine with me.
