  1. Get them out again and stand with them while they read the meter then you take a note of the figure too. Let's face it if the figure is incorrect it's going to be lower than the one they sent you and meters don't go backwards. Don't pay the bill if you don't agree with it either. However if the figure is correct you should do several things: 1. Arrange a system to pay it off - standing order perhaps 2. Get a company in to look at your home to see where savings could be made. We have Keep Newcastle Warm up here you may have something similar and if you are on benefits or low income you can get draught proofing, cavity wall insulation, loft insulation etc done for nothing or next to nothing. This will make massive savings on your bill.
  2. Those targets need to be more specific and why can't he just stick with non-fiction if he wants to? One of my kids ( a non-Aspie) read encylopedias until he was about 12 years old and he's planning to be a genetic scientist. I remember one of Martin's IEP targets was "To stop thinking about Lord of the Rings so much." Which was quite amusing
  3. oook oook Spoke to the SENCO today. He's going to speak to all of Martin's teachers today to make them aware that he has AS and he is going to get his LSA to go into Martin's lessons to see what assistance is required. He is also going to have a chat with Martin and start giving him some organisational skills training to help him manage homework deadlines, behaviour in class etc. Apparently his next review is in January so the SENCO is going to see how this half term goes using the methods he has suggested and then we will discuss further at the review. I explained that Martin doesn't have problems with bullying and does enjoy school. SENCO agreed that whenever he sees him he's always got a big smile on his face
  4. Beavers at 6 years Cubs at 7 and a half to 8 years Scouts at 11 years Explorer Scouts at 14 years They all take girls where facilities exist.
  5. Well done Curra - sounds successful
  6. Phoned the school today and left a message for the SEN to have a meeting. Hoping he'll call back tomorrow. I phoned at 4pm what time do teachers go home? Meanwhile....Martin has another detention
  7. PE teachers - never understood them. When we did cross country running (around the streets around the school) I used to go to my boyfriend's friends mums house and stay there having a cuppa then jog into school at the end of the group. I used to take a bicycle pump to recorder lessons too.
  8. <'> >< <'> Good news. Our GP was excellent too, from going to him Martin had his dx in just months despite what the school said.
  9. Unfortunately if this has become part of his OCD then he is probably going to keep doing this until he can break the cycle. As you say it's not that he doesn't want to go to school it's just that he has now got it into his compulsion that he must leave the bus and as you know with OCD it's hard to break out of that. I am going to suggest something - it sounds stupid and you can tell me to go jump in a lake if you like but here it is: Would your son be willing to sit on the bus with an ipod (favourite music playing loudly) and a blindfold. The kind you wear at bedtime (but without the pink lacy bits). This way the senses are being tricked and he will be unable to work out the twists and turns (for a few journeys at least). If he can't see/hear where he is going he may be able to break the cycle and get to school. Once he has done this it may make a difference. I said it was a stupid idea but nothing ventured......
  10. I remember the first ever IEP Martin had. It turned out it was another AS kid's IEP which the SEN had just copied. Needless to say we had it amended. It's worth attending the reviews if you can and remember this is your child and you know his needs just as well as the SEN. It's likely an oversight if you've attended in the past.
  11. :crying:  Ah yes only in America could they get away with this legally
  12. KellyAnne <'> >< I'm pleased its come as a relief to you and that someone is listening. There'll be quite a few ups and downs for you over the next few months not least trying to spot relatives who may have AS too! It takes time to sink in about the enormity of the whole dx and his future life but at least now you'll be able to get all the help you need - starting with the DLA application
  13. :bounce: Hey that's great news! Parties here you come!
  14. Hiya Paula great to hear from you. I've only just got back on the boards myself
  15. Well done Karen - that's brilliant news! What do we watch out for?
  16. For me....Heaven is a Land Rover rally
  17. That's fantastic news If he's anything like Martin he wasn't alone anyway he was with his snails! Honest....I left Martin when I went to the shops (50 yds away) I asked him if he would be OK on his own and he said: "I'm not on my own, the chinchillas are here!"
  18. How long since you last heard from her? Mind she was a character - lovely lass

    That sounds like good news
  20. "Ta..da" exclaimed Tatters as she appeared out of the dressing area (that?s the one with the en suite shower room too) ?what do you think of my new blue ensemble? Pink is so 2006! Look it changes colour when I fly, a little purple here, a little green there - a proper holographic fairy suit - good eh?? The Angels raised their glittered eyelids roof-ward and watched as Tatters swooped and swayed among the stalactites - her antics made them all feel a little sick........ ".......which reminds me," exclaimed The Female Inquisitor. "The real reason we have all been awoken from our dream-like sleep is because the new guy in power doesn?t seem to have a single SEN plan up his sleeve. "We have mums and dads out there who need our help JT and Angels so it's time to have a proper meeting. Angels to your usual tasks." So Suze set about digging out the hobnobs while Legs found the remains of the Pinot Grigo, Flora put the kettle on, Mel found vish at last ? huddling in a corner as if the victim of some terrifying experience and JT ??.. he sat there wishing he was Rab C Nesbitt's twin and wondered where it had all gone wrong..........
  21. Martin often talks about committing suicide and I do understand why. I've been there myself - I have been so near to just driving my car into the nearest tree/lampost etc because life is so frustratingly hard sometimes and what would it matter if I wasn't there. It's taken a lot of psychotherapy and tablets to prevent me from killing myself and often when I was asked why I would contemplate it all I could answer was that I didn't know It's only the love of my husband and children which have prevented me from taking the final leap. Plus I think God would be really annoyed with me for wasting my life like that. I don't really think we do know why we threaten to kill ourselves - I don't know why our children do it. I've never mentioned I would like to kill myself in front of people I love, only my doctor but Martin he tends to do it when he's down and tells his twin sister who then tells us. It may be worth trying to dig deeper into this - don't let it just pass because this kind of depression doesn't go away on its own. When Martin mentions it I do quiz him and I've even asked if he wants to go back to the psychologist but he seems to get by. I'm always wary though, I think it's worth keeping an eye on this.
  22. Well done little one! He does better than me I'm a real dentist phobia person and only go when I really have to.
  23. I don'tthink there would be a problem after all there can be more than 1 person in a family that's disabled. I applied for DLA for myself - didn't get it though as I was caring for 5 children and could cope ok according to the guy who came out to assess me. It's a different claim, shouldn't affect your son's,mine didn't.
  24. Found some lovely ones but I think the security setting is too high on this forum!  Instead you may imagine a sexy all in one glittery blue number - catsuit in style with front opening zipper which will go lovely with Tatters skintight boots.

Is it a turnip? Looks like a turnip. Let us know what it tastes like and how you cooked it. Might make a nice alternative for a Halloween lantern!
