  1. Welcome to the forum.
  2. Welcome I can empathise with your finding emotions confusing. I found my ocd health anxiety eased off post diagnosis after all my disabilities were identified. hope you find some support soon. The book 'pretending to be normal ' may appeal to you.
  3. Congratulations on your diagnosis.
  4. The problem is Aspergers doesnt fit into any boxes neatly that the council have for care services. Although we have a social communication disorder there doesnt appear to be a suitable category for this. Learning disability in some circles is still IQ of below about a certain level (which isnt even average), which aspergers is excluded on those grounds. Mental health doesnt fit either because no meds or therapies can cure or correct aspergers, although some claim to alleviate it.
  5. Hello and welcome As someone who struggles to pay the rent and is scared of getting evicted i empathise.
  6. Any research topic which doesn't have permission from one or more of the moderators to be posted will be removed without warning.
  7. What does your tenancy agreement say? Can you afford the 50% extra rent if you stayed? That's presuming the remaining tenant could also afford it.
  8. What a university says they will do and what actually happens can be different things. Eg "support me getting dsa sorted out" equated to pestering me until i got it done for the 1st year and no reminder to renew for the 2nd or 3rd years. But if they had told me why I have to sort out dsa and by when I would have been able to do it. Rather than concluding I was making myself out to be more disabled than I am.
  9. Has the brand of sertraline or the dose changed since you 1st went on it? Hope your appointments go well. It is true that services might claim you "paid for your label therefore you can pay for your other services" if you go down the private route for diagnosis. Is your local/nearest NAS branch supportive?
  10. How long have you been on sertraline? i couldnt tolerate it or any other type of antidepressant it's a side effect of my autism. I've just been on your councils website and looked up autism and found these links http://www3.hants.gov.uk/as-autism-strategy-hampshire(autism strategy check to see what it says about adult diagnosis) There are other links on that page but i cant get them to work as im a resident outside of hampshire. home page for autism on hampshires website; http://www3.hants.gov.uk/as-autism Theres also mental health links like Saneline or the Samaritans to talk mental health needs through. Also consider asking for a mental health advocate http://www3.hants.gov.uk/adult-services/adultservices-professionals/mental-health-strategies/imca.htm
  11. How do you know that he is aware of how his behaviour is upsetting his brother? A sign on the door saying "(name of asperger son) only enter if (name of other son) gives permission when this door is locked" may resolve the problem. If hes expecting his brother to be cross then it sounds like he has a very negative view about himself. When people are cross at least we asperger folk are aware why they are cross so a way of trying to take control of an unpredictable situation. i would give him the benefit of the doubt regarding whether he's upsetting his brother on purpose. What is his reason for upsetting his brother when his brother wishes to have his own time in his room? Green tea may help with anxiety which can calm your son. For me i find avoiding gluten and dairy in my lifestyle and diet helps me to learn and stay calm and focussed in social situations. i was unable to learn social conventions effectively until i made serious permanent changes to my diet and lifestyle. Asperger folk can keep up this mask of being ok and able to cope for only so long and then things go to pot often in a safe environment such as home, Flapping can be a sign of excitement or a sign of distress hard to tell.
  12. All types forgot to put (but not limited to) in the post. Provided the conversation remains respectful.
  13. I've posted in the general thread and put "may contain adult content" for the trans one. http://www.asd-forum.org.uk/forum/index.php?/forum/2-general-discussion/
  14. This topic has been created for people to openly discuss their gender. Whether questioning your gender, supporting another person questioning their gender or consider yourself on the trans* spectrum all are welcome. All gender identities will be respected whether genderqueer, non-binary, male to female, female to male or a mixture of different genders. Please respect peoples right to privacy regarding their gender.
  15. This topic has been created for people to openly discuss sexuality matters. All types of sexuality will be respected whether gay, straight, bi or asexual. Please respect peoples right to privacy regarding their sexuality.
  16. As someone who is both trans and bisexual I feel able to moderate this part of the forum if necessary. I am not 'out' though and am unlikely to do so on here. How's this sound? (also put an adult content thread tag on there). "the sexuality discussion thread" This topic has been created for people to openly discuss sexuality matters. All types of sexuality will be respected whether gay, straight, bi or asexual. Please respect peoples right to privacy regarding their sexuality. "the gender identity trans thread" This topic has been created for people to openly discuss their gender.
  17. Thats a good idea, we could have a 'gender identity discussion' thread and a 'sexuality discussion' thread?
  18. Good point i hadnt thought of bipolar. There are a number of mental health websites and we've a pinned post for 'mental health resources' see if any of the helplines can assist you. ive found saneline to be particularly understanding when ive got things i need to discuss with a stranger. Another excellent website is mind.org .
  19. It was to do with the member who keeps talking about Luke. He mentioned how the guy "didnt masturbate properly and had to watch others in order to learn how to masturbate properly". i can see the logic to Lukes behaviour but i dont see why it should be on the forum. i felt it was tmi and sounded like a description of a porn video. Swearing is automatically stared out.
  20. Anytime feel free to share any supportive information you find out about them with us.
  21. You could try contacting the local branches of the NAS in those areas and asking them.
  22. Hello all Do we have any rules against swearing and mentioning adult content on this site? I've just had to remove a post about someone posting adult content because i was concerned it might upset others. Is there a link to the forum rules or guidelines i could view, thanks
  23. Pleased things are improving for you. In response to your original post. My family have mixed views on how to 'deal with' my autism and other disabilities. Most of them blame me for my behaviour and criticise me in front of others.
  24. Does sound like you're depressed. Have you found any medications helpful in the past to help? i find taking omega 3s and b vitamins help my depression.
