  1. If your SW's line manager is also useless, then go over their heads. Go to the top of SS - camp out at their offices if necessary. I know that you have done all the rounds already, but you've got to get in touch with everyone and push for intervention. They are failing your and your son, and they need to get some help in place immediately. It is not acceptable for you all to be so distressed.
  2. I am sad to lose you as a mod, I have always respected your ability to moderate when things are getting fraught - but I am especially sad with why it has happened. I think it is sad that we can become so fractured as a forum, rather than united around our common issues. But welcome to the role of commoner.

    Laundry

Ha Ha! My washing machine once broke down under warrenty when the kids were very young, and it was much needed (no change there really). The engineer came out and fixed it, then a couple of weeks later it went wrong again. I phoned them and gave them what for, and they sent out another engineer to fix it again. He asked me if I had small kids - and then pulled out the antenna of a remote control car that had been fed into the drum. My high moral ground fell away from me, and I always made sure I closed the door of the washing machine after that!
  4. Is there any way that you can change CAHMS team? I moved the hospital that my son was seen at as the CAHMS team at the first place drove me up the wall with their lack of understanding of autism. And I know that they thought I was the problem becuase I wouldn't accept their theories.
  5. Grrr. is there any way that you can point out to them how off that is?
  6. Well done you. That'll learn them!

    Work.!!!

Are you a member of a trade union? If not, it might be worth considering joining one as they can negotiate on your behalf.
  8. A lot of music shops seem to offer rentals for students.
  9. I found an outreach worker from an autistic special school in the county helped - she came in and gave the school things to look out for, and then came back to assess how well they had done against her recommendations.
  10. GRRRR!!! I had a very similar situation a couple of years ago in an after school club, where my son was being teased and called 'gay' amoungst other things (goodness only knows what anyone thinks they mean by it at that age). My boy was really upset, so I blew my stack at the play leader (not shouty - just v v assertive), and then in turn at the manager. We had been asked a couple of weeks beforehand to sign a contract, basically saying that ani social behaviour would not be tolerated - that the parent would be informed, etc. I got them to guarantee that would be invoked against the boy in question, that his mum be told, and that he be put on a warning, otherwise I would consider it discrimination. I think that I frightened the life out of them all, and the boy never did it again. (Although for a while there when I picked the kids up I would have to stop myself running over to give him a slap. . . ) Don't get mad - get even.

    drinking water

I think that WW specifies 3 litres - that might be where you got that figure from?
  12. It can't hurt - at the very least you are registering an interest.
  13. This sounds awful, you poor thing. My brother is also homeless - and I know how easy it is to happen. Social services have allocated him a keyworker who has helped sort out a place in a hostel, and contributions towards his rent arrears, etc. It's not brilliant, but it's something. Shelter also has support services, this link has a free national helpline: http://england.shelter.org.uk/get_advice/a...help_and_advice

    Forum Diet Thread

I'm doing Slimming World as well. The weight loss seems to go well, and then stop for a while, without me doing anything noticeably different!
  15. A place where my brother used to live had the same problem - caused by the toaster. Every time someone made toast it set the alarm off which triggered a fire engine being dispatched. In the end the fire brigade insisted that they get the electrics checked, and a new toaster. Could you speak to whoever looks after accommodation and see if there is anything that they can do to lessen the cause of these alarms? I can't image you are the only person that is feeling the effect of them.
  16. Good luck. I can remember that you and I returned to work at around the same time, I'm glad to see that you are thinking about getting your career back.

    One to one help?

I think that it depends on your local education authority, and the individual school involved - but at the end of the day it comes down to money more often than not. At the very least it might be worth pushing for School Action Plus while you are waiting for a dx, which gives the child additional support, but draws on funds already allocated to the school.
  19. Experience has taught me that I wouldn't necessarily take much notice of what any professional thinks is the key question to determine autism, as it is so much more complex than that.
  20. Sounds like you've got a fight on your hands, not least of all due to the short notice. - do the NAS, or the actual service provider, have a complaints procedure? Might it be worth going to your ward councellor/MP/local paper?
