  5. I must be losing it in my old age or something but this got to me. I received this from a good friend who had a choice to make. It said that I had a choice to make too. I've chosen. Now it's your turn to choose. The story goes that some time ago a man punished his 5-year-old daughter for wasting a roll of expensive gold wrapping paper. Money was tight and he became even more upset when the child pasted the gold paper so as to decorate a box to put under the Christmas tree. Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift box to her father the next morning and said, "This is for you, Daddy." The father was embarrassed by his earlier over reaction, but his anger flared again when he found the box was empty. He spoke to her in a harsh manner, "Don't you know, young lady, when you give someone a present there's supposed to be something inside the package?" The little girl looked up at him with tears in her eyes and said, "Oh, Daddy, it's not empty. I blew kisses into it until it was full." The Father was crushed. He fell on his knees and put his arms around his little girl, and he begged her to forgive him for his unnecessary anger. An accident took the life of the child only a short time later and it is told that the father kept that gold box by his bed for all the years of his life. And whenever he was discouraged or faced difficult problems he would open the box and take out an imaginary kiss and remembered the love of the child who had put it there. In a very real sense, each of us as human beings have been given a golden box filled with unconditional love and kisses from our children, family and friends. There is no more precious possession anyone could hold. You now have two choices. You can: 1- Pass this on to your friends and relatives, or, 2- Delete it and act like it didn't touch your heart. As you can see, I took choice No. 1. Friends are gifts from God who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly. Think positive and act. I am thankful for .... For the husband/wife who snores all night, because he/she is at home asleep with me and not with someone else. For my teenage daughter who is complaining about doing dishes, because that means she is at home and not on the streets. For the taxes that I pay, because it means that I am employed. For the mess to clean after a party, because it means that I have been surrounded by friends. For the clothes that fit a little too snug because it means I have enough to eat. For my shadow that watches me work, because it means I am out in the sunshine. For a floor that needs mopping, and windows that need cleaning, because it means I have a home. For all the complaining I hear about Tony Blair, because it means that we have freedom of speech. For the parking spot I find at the far end of the parking lot, because it means I am capable of walking and that I have been blessed with transportation. For the pile of laundry and ironing, because it means I have clothes to wear. For weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day, because it means I am capable of working hard. For the alarm that goes off in the early morning hours, because it means that I am alive. AND FINALLY for too much e-mail, because it means I have friends and relatives who are thinking of me. Send this to someone you care about. I JUST DID. THINK POSITIVE

  16. Total programme listing for Teachers TV.... The programmes are: Imagination on the autistic spectrum The programme shows how a Creative Partnerships project allows Rosehill Special School in Nottingham to work on a range of arts projects with pupils on the autistic spectrum. Pupils at Rosehill Special School have developed levels of creative and imaginative skills not often associated with those on the autistic spectrum. A converted classroom forms an open art space where students explore imaginative activity in dance, painting and model-making. The school is one of the few state schools catering specifically for primary and secondary pupils on the autistic spectrum. Kayleigh, a former student, reveals how lessons in digital photography, with teaching assistant Maggie Saunders, helped her realise her dream of gaining a place to study photography at college. We also see how each morning, deputy head Andy Sloan encourages pupils to rev up by running in the hall, in what he calls the "brain gym". Highlighting the work of West Blatchington School in Hove, the programme highlights the innovative use of weblogs at the school where teachers, students and even the head are dedicated 'bloggers'. Steve visits the school's after-school blogging club, a special bloggers' assembly and sees weblogs being used in the school's autistic unit and discovers that blogging can help in literacy, ICT skills and a range of other subjects. Many of the benefits extend beyond the curriculum: Blogging can help pupils develop confidence, improve their self expression and get a real sense of fulfilment from publishing their work Tuesday 20 September at 12.00pm, 1.00pm, 6.00pm, 9.30pm Wednesday 21 September at 5.30am Thursday 22 September at 1.15pm, 6.15pm, 9.45pm Friday 23 September at 5.45am Sunday 25 September at 11.00pm Tito's story Eleven-year-old Tito from Bangalore, South India, is severely autistic, but he is deeply philosophical with a profound comprehension of his own condition. Insightful and often humorous, he reveals exactly what it means to be autistic, and in doing so challenges the orthodox thinking about autism. Tito, accompanied by his mother, Somo, came to London for assessment. Many doubted his abilities and even suggested that he was at the centre of an elaborate hoax. What did the experts really think? Will his uncontrollable behaviour let him down? At home, Jordan would require residential care, but his parents sought alternative treatment in the USA. Jordan is put through the Option Process in Boston, America, which involves the parent and child working intensely together in one room for 12 hours a day. The results are astounding. Friday 23 September at 10.00pm Saturday 24 September at 12.00am A stranger in the family It has only been in recent years that progressive treatments have been explored and some startling breakthroughs made by the children who respond to these therapies. 'Stranger in the family' looks at the efforts made at a special school in Sydney called Giant Steps. Based on a Canadian model, the school was set up and is maintained by the parents of the students who attend. The film shares the lives of three dedicated families for a year as they come to terms with autism and strive to help their children make a breakthrough that will give them hope for the future. We see the methods of the school, the hopes of the students and the parents who have a daily battle with this lifelong developmental disability.
