hev Report post Posted June 6, 2007 i feel nervous,excited,scared and sad all at once the school im hoping to send steve to just phoned and hes going there for what they call a taster days on 2nd july for 3 days to see how he gets on its a residential school,me and mum have appointment to look round the school on 20th june,was meant to be 6th but steve got bad ear infection i feel really odd(shut it bighead )i know its for the best and i want to give it a go but i got butterflies,even though i knew it was coming i never actually thought it would Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Might be worth doing what I did, which was as soon as I knew we had the initial visit, I went out and bought suitcases, towels, dressing gown, etc, etc...I kept all the receipts so I could always take them back, but I was so glad I was organised as it all happened so quickly in the end. I thought Auriel would start in the January, but in the end he started 4 weeks before the end of the Christmas term, because he was so desperate to go, and he had been out of school for 6 months by then. I was just glad I had bought ahead, because it was a real rush (especially naming everything) and if I hadn't I would have only had one Saturday to get everything! When we went for the initial visit I asked how soon he would start, and the school said asap depending on the LEA, so I would just ask when you go if I were you. Check on the laundry arrangements, as T's school put everything on a hot wash, so anything a bit fragile soon shrank! I bought T a calendar so I could mark on it any family birthdays and the days when he would be coming home. That's Ok if you have a child that does not insist every label is cut out - lol! Re: dormitories - it depends on the type of school - but most specialist independent schools offer single rooms now I believe (T's school used to have a few 2 person rooms, but all are now singles). I only saw one school that had a dormitory type set-up (for 6 children). My son would not have coped with that. It should say in their prospectus how the accommodation is set up. Kazzen161 Report post Posted June 7, 2007 You should ask their policy on mobile phones. T was allowed them (but at their own risk - liable to get lost or misplaced). Check the reception too - T couldn't get a signal on some suppliers at his secondary school. Basically, in there is a comfy chair, a table a telephone and a notice board. The telephone is a payphone. The 'Head' told us that the adults never answer that phone, and they never use that phone. It is the kids' phone. He recommended that we phone Louis on that phone so as Louis wouldn't have to keep paying out the money. BUT, Louis doesn't 'do' phones, so I asked if I could write instead, and he said that would be a brilliant idea, and suggested postcards, but to try the phone.
