Kathryn Report post Posted March 7, 2009 For years my daughter owned only one pair of shoes, a pair of scruffy trainers. I could never persuade her to buy any more. Now she has a pair of black boots which I recently persuaded her to buy so that she has something smart. She recently saw the same pair in purple and said she would have preferred those. I suggested she buy those as well (they were only 15) and she was horrified. Owning more than 2 pairs of footwear is "rampant consumerism" she said. I said that most women had way more than 2, at a conservative estimate, most women have at least a dozen pairs in their wardrobe. She didn't believe me. So I said I would ask the womenn I knew and get an average. So how many pairs do you have? ( Tip: to calculate no. of pairs, count all the shoes and divide total no. by 2 ) I address this question mainly to the ladies among us, making the blatantly sexist assumption that all men are sartorially boring and have only 2 pairs of shoes: one black, one brown. I may of course, be wrong... K x
pookie170 Report post Posted March 7, 2009 Five pairs of shoes, one pair of boots. And no high heels- the dog just chewed the heel off my only pair but I didn't like them anyway so I won't be hurrying to replace them!

call me jaded Report post Posted March 7, 2009 I have a shoe rack at the bottom of my wardrobe that holds 24 pairs. When I buy new ones I select a pair to dispose of. Then there's the drawer for flipflops but there's only 3 at the mo cos I had a cull at the end of summer, then there's the very expensive pair still in the box that I take out and look at, and some wellies and walking boots in the cupboard under the stairs. I usually wear just one pair at a time tho hehe
Tally Report post Posted March 7, 2009 I have five pairs of shoes. 1 pair of sandals 1 pair of smart, brown shoes 1 pair of walking boots, which I also wear for work. 2 pairs of trainers. I plan to buy a third pair soon. I also have some old ones which have worn out, which I can't bring myself to throw out yet. My dad owns over forty pairs of shoes. Occasionally he takes them all out and polishes them. I don't think it's rampant consumerism to have more than two pairs of shoes if you use them all regularly. You can still wear them until they wear out, it just takes longer if you can alternate them. It's also good to air out your shoes, especially if you wear trainers. lbj Report post Posted March 7, 2009 (edited) Pretty certain that I actually own a few more pairs than I list here in fact... Shoes - 12 pairs Trainers - 4 pairs Sandals - 4 pairs Boots - 5 pairs I fear that is a bit excessive but in my defence I would say that some of them are more than ten years old and are still being worn (often in the case of my beloved DMs) janine see I already remembered also walking boots (recent addition) and wellies (pink) Edited March 7, 2009 by lbj

baddad Report post Posted March 8, 2009 3 pairs of kangol canvas (green/black/cream) TBfair, they were only 10.00 a pair in the sales last year, and the black ones are one size up 'cos i had to buy a pair for when i had a sprained ankle. 1pr of green flash (almost totally worn) 1 pr of blue flash (nearly new - bought to replace the green flash that are almost totally worn) 1 pr green converse copies 1 pr of black converse copies 1 pr of black converse copies (high sided) 1 pair of cheap white canvas 1 pr cool leatherl slip-ons 1 pr uncool plasticy slip-ons 1 pr heavy trainers for days when it's too wet for canvas a couple of pairs of flip-flops. 2 pairs of heavy winter boots suede slip ons Navy deck shoes A couple of pairs of 1.99 seaside slip-ons Black brogues (from the days when i used to have to wear suits) Brown brogues (as above, but went with the other suit) The black leather shoes with the silver strap across the front i used to love but never wear anymore because i don't go out clubbing anymore My smelly old brown mocs i wear 99% of the time when I'm indoors The hideous navy mocs I bought when my old brown mocs disintegrated and they hadn't got any brown left in the shops that i wore until they had... I'm fairly sure that's it, but in all honesty i'm a reet hoarder - i'll prob never wear the brogues or several other pairs again, but never get around to lobbing them out. Actually scared myself with that list, considering I only have a couple of pairs of jeans on the go at any one time!

Kathryn Report post Posted March 8, 2009 Interesting... a few comtenders here for the Imelda Marcos award then. I have 4 pairs black boots (2 were given to me, to be fair) 2 pairs brown boots 3 pairs trainers 1 pair walking boots 3 pairs smartish shoes (one given to me) 4 pairs flat pumps 2 pairs summer sandals 2 pairs slip ons 1 pair flip flops 2 pairs shoes kept only for plays and such frivolities 2 more beyond the pale but used for flopping round in the garden, swatting flies and anything else that comes to mind wellies (do they count?) 26!! And I only wear about 5 of them regularly - the most comfy ones are a pair of black slip on trainers which I can wear to work. I do a lot of walking and have made quite a few mistakes - buying shoes which later turn out to be uncomfortable. Some of the mistakes are still in my cupboard. Furry dragon slippers Furry frog slippers Furry monster feet slippers Boring blue 'shower' slippers Silly wellies 2 pairs canvas type everyday shoes - one slip on, one lace-up 1 pair converse boots, but there's something wrong and they make a whoopee cushion noise if I wear them in the rain 1 pair black boots to wear when I can't get away with more casual shoes 1 pair walking boots 1 pair hiking shoes 1 pair trainers 1 pair flip-flops 1 pair of dainty female type shoes that I have worn once for about 5 hours after someone insisted on dressing me up for an evening out! Stella63 Report post Posted March 8, 2009 I don't actually possess any shoes!!! I will qualify that by saying I have 4 pairs of ankle boots and 4 pairs of sandals (plus a few sparkly flip flops and a pair of wellies!) and I jump from boots to sandals and vice versa which is not always easy in our inclement country!! Oh, and once I've made the jump from one to the other there is no going back - and I'm supposed to be the sane one in our family!!!! Stella x
chris54 Report post Posted March 8, 2009 Now as a mere male, I have, in order of importance:- A pair of steel toe capped wellies. A pair of steel toe capped work boots. A pair of walking boots. A pair of general , trainer look a like, boots. A pair of posh black shoes to go with my Weddings and funerals suit. Now her in doors only ever wears the same few pairs of trainer look a like shoes, but has a habit getting new shoes never wearing them and then sending them down the charity shop "I dont like them" but then that a women thing isn't it.
