Pleased Meg is on the road to recovery.
  4. If i could cure the severe anxiety/depression and mental health problems associated with my Aspergers then i would. i don't wish for my aspergers itself to be cured as to me that would be cheating, i wouldn't be overcoming my "inappropriate" behaviours i would just get a quick fix. It depends on what the term cure means. Im chelating and using dietary intervention to get rid of the negative aspects of my aspergers only. Alexis
  5. Thats a really disgustingly high statistic.
  6. Welcome Good luck in discovering more to help you get a diagnosis. Alexis
  7. By treated do you mean cured? i need a cure for this problem not a long term treatment.

    Hello All!

Welcome i hope you find some answers here.
  11. ive heard some parents have success with oxypowder when their kids are bunged up down below. Alexis
  12. Being stopped from using the loo is really upsetting for me as i can literally hold it on (involuntary i might add) for 5 hours. Alexis
  13. Yesterday i had 1 meal that day and a few bits of choc, the day before i could manage 3 meals. i had left my supplements behind when i had attended a Birmingham meet up (different autism site). Things that have helped my mental health disabilities; 1, 5htp for sleep and depression 2, strawberries in the morning for motivation 3, taurine at night for anxiety (helps with eliminating effects of swimming pool chlorine as well) 4, licorice root extract on dates 1-7 inclusive for adrenal support 5, gaba for anxiety 6, gluten/dairy free diet for depression anxiety 7, fish/omega oils help with all types of depression 8, probiotics has been rumoured to help with OCD and depression 9, counselling (i know how hard it is to get asd counselling) 10, anxiety and depression workbook for dummies and breaking free from ocd 11, avoiding benzoates as i almost went psychotic on them 12, strangely enough avoiding anti depressants Alexis PS: i am not a doctor and cannot be held responsible for any actions you choose to take as a result of this list.
  14. Well done, i know how hard it is to restrain yourself when we get overloded. Alexis
  15. i think ive asked the only adult dyslexia association but i could ask my university disability assessment centre. Alexis
  16. Same here have fun and good luck in getting help for your teenage kid. Alexis
  17. Sounds like another "selective silent" kid, i wasn't independent when i went to college but i soon found my feet. Alexis
  18. Colleges do have teaching assistants, well at least in Nth Somerset and Bristol areas. i know as i had one full time for every day including the break lunchtimes in Bristol. Could he attend a different place further away? West Middlesex college is ASD friendly and i know that as the book "not stupid" highlighted the needs of both asperger and autistic kids. Failing that ask the NAS which colleges are suitable for your lad. The "taking responsibility" report (A Powell 2001) has some recommended colleges in the index. Good luck Alexis (who had a breakdown due to lack of support at a nth somerset college but has now successfully completed most of an undergrad degree)
  19. Sounds like selective silence to me. Alexis
  20. Hello i had 2 assessments but i think they were part of the same diagnosis if you get me. Both done at tyndalls park childrens hospital in Bristol. That was 14 years ago and the help i got from them was a nas leaflet on asperger syndrome and sent on my way. The diagnostic report was very detailed. Alexis
  21. Some disability benefits at least used to require studying of 16 hours or less on educational courses. By studying they mean taught time, so lunch times and breaks also home study courses wouldn't count. So severe disablement allowance claimants like me for example wouldn't be permitted to be in class for longer than 16 hours a week, i think the same is for incapacity and employment and support allowances. It could be that she couldn't manage a 35 hour week. You could also refer your son to Connexions since hes within their remit of under 25. Alexis
  22. hello i would appreciate the forewarning of having an autistic kid, but i wouldn't kill my baby unless my life was in danger. In other words if i was emotionally stable at the time i wouldn't take the "autism out on my unborn baby" (which is what i would be doing, "this kid isnt good enough for me" after all xe could be autistic or aspie but at least i could change the environment for xem before birth. Alexis
  23. hello One member suggested in the "introducing new forum" thread that we have a separate section to discuss mental health problems. i think it is an excellent idea so im formally requesting something be set up. Even a sub forum to the adolescent ASD one would be great IMO. Alexis
  24. hello As my dyslexia means i can read better right to left than left to right........i find reading upside down easier than the right way up. Does anyone know of a driver i can put on my computer screen that will stay until i set the pc to cancel it please? Previous suggestions mean as soon as my mouse clicks the driver goes and the screen becomes back to right way up. i can already enlarge the test on the screen but the upside down screen will make misunderstandings less of a problem. i am currently misreading stuff and missing out on reading stuff also getting tired from reading stuff. That is no matter what time of the day it is mind you. Alexis
