Shnoing

I've got the feeling I have to make an update here: Now my son has reached age 17 I'm in fact moderating a self-help group of young people on the spectrum (aged 16-25), with (by now) 7 participants (4 male, 3 female). We're meeting every 4 weeks, since fall 2020 (the rules here allow face-2-face meetings of self-help groups for medical reasons for a number of diagnoses, e.g. autism, even during the lockdown phases).

Did a binge re-reading of C.S.Forester's Hornblower books. By chance I found: Neil Gaiman, The Ocean at the End of the Lane. Only a novel, but, well, good to read ...

Some autistics are able to maintain a "facade" during the day (at school, at work, among strangers) and totally let go at home. The higher the stress level when "out", the more disturbing the actions when in "sheltered" surrounding. Of course, you have to protect your younger son. Just finished re-read of Ulysses (started one week ahead of this year's Bloomsday).

I'm very much into Belgian comics. So, Asterix, Gaston Lagaffe, Spirou, the Smurfs, Tintin, but there's also the authors Flix or Ralf König. (look them up!)

The story's got several layers, some of which JKR herself didn't realize, it seems. My favourite "helper" here is http://www.redhen-publications.com/(there's a sub-section about the "Potterverse"). Harry seems to be written so he appeals also to girls so there's many more (potential) readers than if it were a "boys-only" story.

After several years of watching myself (after my DX), I've come to the conclusion that formulating my thoughts in my "mother tongue" is as easy (or difficult) for me as it is for a NT person to formulate her/his thoughts in a foreign language. I often get "why do you look like that", and I cannot answer it in words. I.e., I don't find the word for the emotions I have.

I'm very much against that idea. I have already been one (of several) advisors to a MP (not in Britain), and running one country alone is already a job for a big crowd. The interaction needed within that crowd is too quick and too complex to get handled with autism. That's my personal feeling, and it's not due to lack of IQ score on my side (in the 99th percentile).
