JeanneA Report post Posted December 21, 2010 Hi it has now been decided that Glen will stay at the hospital over Christmas. The main reason is the complete mess up in arranging transport, i.e. ambulance, nurses etc. I am going to see him and will stay there (they have a parents room) just after Christmas on the 27th or 28th. I feel this is definitely in Glen's interests to stay over Christmas especially with his anxiety and aggression. So I am relieved that this is the outcome and look forward to seeing Glen soon. oxgirl Report post Posted December 21, 2010 Oh that's really good news, Jeanne, that must be such a relief, I'm really pleased for you. It would have been even more stressful travelling with all this snow too. Hope that your journey up there isn't too bad, at least you can take your time and not try to rush too much, just take it as it comes. Hope you all have an enjoyable time. <'> ~ Mel ~

Hi Jeanne - Glad it's all worked out for the best. I'm sure it will be much less stressful for Glen too, not having to navigate those long drives back and forth etc. Bound to feel odd for you, but make the most of the respite and enjoy what's probably - and with the best will in the world - going to be your most 'peaceful' Christmas for years. I'm sure that's somewhat bittersweet, but you can only play the hand circumstances have dealt you, so play it for all it's worth! Wishing you, Glen and everyone else involved the best of Christmases, and the best 'Post-Christmas-Pre-New-Year' reunion time, circumstances and weather can allow. trekster Report post Posted December 21, 2010 Im pleased you are getting some respite from your son. i totally understand your decision not to have him home for xmas. Im doing the opposite avoiding my family this xmas, the sudden changes are too much and their reactions to when i have issues with the changes are even worse. oxgirl Report post Posted December 21, 2010 How has Glen been getting on, Jeanne? Have you been getting regular feedback? ~ Mel ~
JeanneA Report post Posted December 21, 2010 Hi yes I've been getting regular feedbacks. I am a bit disappointed to learn that they are not starting any therapies until after Christmas though, Glen was admitted on the 6th after all but having said that they have added another week onto his assessment so its 13 instead of 12. They haven't changed Glen's medications as yet once again they are looking at that after Christmas. They are making sure Glen has structure in his day and he has had some schooling there. I am hoping that they will 'step things up at bit' after Christmas though because at the end of the day we haven't sent him off for respite we have sent him there for specialist help! Kathryn Report post Posted December 21, 2010 I suppose you have to wait and see what happens after Christmas. Maybe those who can make the decisions are on leave? Hope you have a good Christmas, both at home, and afterwards when you visit Glen. It sounds as though all things considered, this is the best decision. The weather adds an element of uncertainty at the moment and the last thing you'd want is for last minute changes to disrupt everything. <'> K x
westie Report post Posted December 22, 2010 Hi. I think considering sitation that staying there, and giving you the opportunity to visit shortly after, sounds like the best solution so I am glad this has happened. I hope that things do start happening after the holiday period too. enjoy your christmas and take care X

JeanneA Report post Posted January 5, 2011 Hi I went up to see Glen over the New Year weekend, It was good to see him again, it had been nearly 4 weeks since he had been admitted. Glen is more relaxed and less anxious since being there which was lovely to see. Glen enjoyed opening his Christmas presents albeit a week late! I was very impressed with the staff, they seemed lovely caring people, it's nice to know Glen is in such good hands. They will be trying various therapies and schooling from this week, so it will be interesting to see how Glen copes. Glen has been seen by a Speech Therapist and a Psychologist on a few occasions since being there, and his medications have been reduced. I will keep you updated on Glen's progress! baddad Report post Posted January 5, 2011 Hi Jeanne - All sounding wonderfully positive so far! Reduced anxiety AND reduced meds - that's gotta be a good indication that they're doing something right, and very reassuring all round. Hope everything goes well with the new interventions and schooling stuff this week. Keep us posted. L&P BD

JsMum Report post Posted January 5, 2011 I dont think we can even begin to estimate your relief, you must be so happy knowing that he is somewhere that are really helping him. Its brilliant news that he is less anxious and that he is now on less medication, that is a really positive step forward. I am sure the Hospital will take into account any issues relating to the increase in therapies, assessments and educational support, but it is fabulous he is getting such a comprehensive provision. Good luck and it wont be long before he is home now, it goes to show how quick it all goes, the time has flown by. I know this year is flying by already thats for sure, best wishes. JeanneA Report post Posted January 6, 2011 (edited) I've heard today that Glen is coming home for a weekend on the 21st of January. It'll be nice to have him home, just hope he is ok when he goes back on the 24th! It is part of the assessment that Glen comes home half-way through to see how he copes back home again.
