Hi all i went back to work when my son was 4 months old as i had been there for 5 years already and they offered me good pay to cover childminder ( i had a daughter 10 years previous, we were told we couldnt have anymore so you can imagine the shock we had ) , my childminder is the salt of earth we didnt know back then that my son had ASD but she was brilliant with him and we still keep in touch. Now that he is at school i have been getting my mum to help out in hols as luckly she retired the same year that childminder finished, but when i got diagnosis i told work that i had to have off at least 7 weeks a year to cover the majority of the school holidays or i would leave as i had to be fair to him and my mum, so far (its the first year)work have been brilliant but not sure how they will be as the years go on jayne xx

Our son was given the Fragile X test and it came back normal aswell we werent offered any other tests jayne xx

My daughter is only 16 but even now it frightens the life out of us as to how her brother will cope when she leaves home, he worships the ground she walks on, i think because there is a 10 year gap that is why they are so close she is like a second mother to him and i trust her with him completely jayne xx

Oh God DaisyProudfoot your son sounds exactly like mine if he is on the playstation or gameboy i hardly know i have him But if it is anything else like you said then thats it you know you have him, i think they just dont cope without that constant reminder from us parents to tell them what to do, how to do it , and when to do it, bless them jayne xx

Hi justamom <'> i havent been in this situation yet as my son is only 5 but i would have reacted in the same way some kids are just plain nasty hopefully someone will be about soon who has been in the same situation <'> jayne xx

My son can be so stubborn and determined at times but without fail every night after his first drink (he has two and me lying next to him so he can play with my hair bless) he sits up and kisses the back of my top and tells me he loves me , and it doesnt matter what has happened that day cause at that point you forget it all jayne xx

I am left-handed and so is my ASD son left-handed, i got left-handed scissors through the child development centre, they suggested using them and the school offered to pay for two pairs, one for me and one for them which i thought was nice of them, if you contact the occu therapist at your local child dev centre they have brochures you can look through jayne xx

Dont know if it helps anyone but my son was diagnosed back in november and because he has speech delay he was diagnosed with PDD-NOS, paed said that was the only reason she didnt diagnose aspergers jayne xx

hi all this was exactly like my son he used to be on the PS2 from the minute he got up to the minute he went to bed and the anger and frustration he went through was unreal, in the end i posted on this site and they advised me to buy a timer which i did and it has worked it did take about a week and he can get anxious when the time is nearly up but now he sticks to it, i allow him 60 minutes on the PS2 then he has to come off. Only thing is i have caused another problem cause now after the 60 minutes he goes and puts the telly on and watches that on a timer for the 60 minutes then jumps back on the PS2 but he is not as tempemental as he was so its not that bad. ( if anyone is interested in the timer i bought it from Argos for about ?10.00) hope that helps. jayne xx

wonder if anyone can help me for the past 2/3 weeks now our son ASD has become very anxious to the point that he wont be left in a room on his own by this i mean i can be in the kitchen looking at him in the conservatory and he panics about being in there on his own and he can see me all the time. Today i had to do the polishing upstairs and he didnt want to come up with me as he was on the playstation, so in the end he suggested putting our dog in the room with him and closing all the doors so the dog couldnt get out of the room so he had someone there bless luckely the dog is well behaved just wondered if any one can help with any suggestions as to why he has started doing this. many thanks jayne xx

Hi my first child a daughter was born after 3 days labour but my son who has ASD was born by emergency c section as i lost meconia (not sure i have spelt that right, basically his waters and his poo) so they had to clear his lungs out bless him when he was born jayne xx

Hi all, i wonder if anyone could help me, i am after some form of picture cards or pecs to help my son understand things on a visual level as the teacher says that it would help him alot. i am afraid i am new to this so not sure what would best suit him and i have searched about but cant find a site where i can buy them off. My son was given a diagnosis of PDD/NOS then underneath that Autistic Spectrum Disorder, the paed said she had given him this diagnosis because of his speech problems and he is not as routinised as some kids who are diagnosed with Aspergers. Hope this helps. jayne xx

This is more a query then a question my son ASD has been struggling at school lately over certain issues that happen every week, as an example:- every Monday the school take the class swimming this has been the case for my son for about one and half years now, but guaranteed every Monday he is in floods of tears because he doesnt want to go, the school say that when he is there he enjoys it and the same for football at the school. My question is, is it the change of routine, or the fact that he has to change into different clothes or swimwear(as he has co-ordination problems and is double-jointed) or is it a routine he has got himself into because it is every week and it seems to be stuck in his head that the day is swimming so he automately gets upset, he gets so upset and tearful it is heartbreaking to see and i just want to understand what is upsetting him. jayne xx
