    choosing usernames

My username comes from my best mates kid, she couldn`t say my real name right...Melanie
  2. Oops! Should of read this before i replied to the other one!
  3. Damn!Missed this programme but will hopefully catch a repeat soon.
  4. We saw the film today and thoroughly enjoyed it! We were at the cinema not long after 10am (to avoid crowds etc), and luckily there was only about a dozen of us watching the film...plus we didn`t have to use the earplugs i always carry...wahey! We`d definitely recommend the film to everyone.
  5. Having a great half term here, no school stress at all
  6. Yep i`m a single parent...and very happy that way too.
  7. My son has just turned 8 and is starting to use the word "Aspergers" without any problem at all, i don`t see any need for him to use the term Aspie but i`ll just go along with whatever phrase he seems acceptable to but if he chooses to use it then thats fine with me too. I personally don`t think there are any wrongs or rights with particular terms as long as your kid is happy.
  8. We`re going to see the film over half term, the trailer for it looks great. My son loves the other three films so hopefully he`ll enjoy the trip to the cinema.(fingers crossed!)
  9. I only caught the last few seconds of this due to getting my son ready for school, what was said?
  10. Cheers for the info, will try to watch but my AS son is 8 on the 11th so i might have to try and record it due to birthday celebrations!

    Flu jab...

Same here Annie, i had my flu jab yesterday whilst attending the asthma clinic with my son. I also suffered with severe chest infections etc but since starting the jab (in the last couple of years) i don`t get as ill as i used too. Unfortunately my AS son was in absolute bits when i was having it done and he definitely won`t be having it done for sure!
  12. My son was off school today due to being sick during the night but the secretary has just rang with a message from the headmistress to say that from Monday we have got the two and a half hours i`ve been fighting for....WOOOO HOOOO!!!
  13. Thanks Phasmid, i wasn`t sure about where i stood legally and know plenty of other parents who have done something similar although they haven`t got into trouble. I`ll check out the info on the other forum...thanks in advance
  14. An update as promised! It was quite an interesting meeting i had this morning which lasted almost 90mins, with the SENCO and 1-2-1 present. Apparently the school sent off the necessary paperwork in Feb/ March this year and the extra hours were denied (first i`ve heard btw). The headmistress is now involved in personally hounding the LEA because she feels so strongly about the issue, this is something i`ve been told she doesn`t normally do. We have agreed (on my insistance!) that my son will be finishing school at 3pm everyday until something is sorted out for the long term future. When i complained again about the complete lack of communication from his teacher i was told (off the record) that the headmistress had ordered his teacher not to speak to me at all during the time his 1-2-1 was off!! Surely that isn`t right?! Plus she had ordered his 1-2-1 not to tell me she was going to be off...i`m absolutely livid with this woman! To cap it all off, when i was trying to sneak out of school without being seen, i saw my son in the main hall with his face down on a pile of PE crash mats physically kicking out and crying/ screaming while his teacher just stood there nervously laughing because she didn`t know what to do.
  15. I`d just like to say i am so glad i found this thread ahead of my meeting at school on Monday as i was going to ask to see my sons records but wasn`t sure if i`d be able to...nice one!
  16. Thanks Tylers-Mum, i hope your school situation improves asap! I was in contact with my local parent partnership as well today but even they seem unable to help in this situation. I told school that for the 2 and a half hours that my son is missing that i will remove him from school or there are two other alternatives....they either revert to the 1-2-1 finishing at 3.00pm each day or that i am allowed to go into class for that time period. My meeting is on Monday..wish me luck!
  17. Sorry to drag this one back up but an update for any interested or in a similar situation. For the last two weeks my son has had no support whatsoever in class due to his 1-on-1 being off ill. In that time not one member of staff has even attempted to approach me or tell me of any events regardless of good or bad. Yesterday the headmistress called and i had to go over to school and ended up bringing my son home (luckily i live facing the school and it only takes 30seconds to get there) When he was home he broke down and told me horrendous tales of how he was left to sit in class crying on his own because he was unable to change himself for PE/ he`s spent numerous days sat outside the headteachers office because nobody was there to look after him etc etc... I went in there today and told several members of staff how i felt and told them my son wouldn`t be attending today for those reasons. I had to make his SENCO give me an appointment for Monday morning after 3 weeks of waiting too. With regards to the 2 and a half hours we are missing for statementing, the education authority are refusing to provide those hours and have said if school needs them they should provide for it out of their budget, and if we insist on these hours then the entire statementing process must start from scratch including various assessments and observations which could take months at least. Nightmare!!!
  18. If they are ever visiting Manchester would someone please let me know? Thanks
  19. I picked up my sons pass today, he now gets free bus/ tram and trains in the Greater Manchester area and it is valid for the next 3 years. Good luck to everyone else trying to get similar help.
  20. Thanks for the replies, it turns out that the teaching assistant was given a choice of finishing each day at 3.00pm or one full afternoon off. The problem with 3.00pm is that its in the middle of the last lesson of the day and to leave him midway could be a mega problem five times a week. The afternoon without her is going to vary from week to week due to his teacher not being there on certain days and depending on which lessons are going on such as games/ PE etc. Therefore we haven`t a ###### clue basically but i`ll be grilling his new SENCO next week for sure (this is the same guy i requested to see numerous times before the end of last term but he wasn`t able to see me)
  21. Sorry for the rant folks but i`m rather peed off at the mo! My son started juniors on Monday, things have gone really well this week and i`ve been really chuffed...until this morning when i was introduced to his new SENCO. I was informed that due to a ###### up with paperwork, his teaching assistant wouldn`t be in school at all this afternoon. He was given full time statementing (25 hours) in November last year but in juniors it is a longer day (an extra 30mins a day). This paperwork mistake means that he is still only entitled to 25 hours and he has to be assessed again in school by a woman who took almost 12 months to pin down last year, then it has to go before panel again etc etc.... We`re looking at possibly 2 - 3 months at least before this is sorted out, in the meantime its my son that suffers. His teaching assistant was only informed herself last night and was genuinely upset and concerned for my sons needs. He will have one afternoon a week without any support for the foreseeable future...and i`m livid! So my fight to get him help has just started...again. And to prove how much his teacher was missed today, he was a gibbering wreck in tears when i picked him up. Again, sorry for going on, i just needed to vent.
  22. There are some on Ebay, mainly American sellers except for one called thinkautism who is based here. Car stickers available too.
  23. Similar thing here the the other day when my son had hiccups, when i said try holding your breath he frantically tried grasping the air coming out of his mouth...i should of known better
  24. My son starts year 3 (juniors) in the morning, he`s been struggling with his emotions about it for weeks now and is still awake at the mo. Luckily he will have the same support teacher in class, not sure about his dinnertime supervision though. The headmistress of the school sent him a lovely postcard last week to welcome him back to school which pleased him but the novelty lasted only a few minutes! Wish us luck...
  25. In June my Dad fell on the stairs (not down them), and broke his ankle. When he tried to stand up he then fell down the stairs and broke it again, this time the bone pierced through the skin! He spent a month in hospital and had to have an operation, his foot is literally held together now by pins/ metal plates etc. Glad to hear your fall wasn`t as serious!!
