  1. Bummer...: I thought that English AS-folk finally openend a topic in which they showed their photo's.. There are quite a few, which are véry good. Especially for their unique look and eye for detail Maybe have a 'good look around in y'class.. Sorry Maksim, can't help you..I live abroad ;-) ... nor do I have any kids yet.. Good luck on your project!
  2. a favorite of mine.. it says so much.. LOVE IT!
  3. LOL.. GREAT cover of 'somebody I used to know' ...
  4. I would try and let the sensory issues assesed asap.. and get tips (to give certain stimuly/avoid or temper others) from that specialized therapist! That is more important than the eventual lable that might fit the behaviour!
  5. Wow... High standard.. I dó get where you are coming from though..Just be aware how long it has been since you've been like that.. (some might never have been as such..) for it wíll take as long as that, unless you are very very detirment and commited! I'd like to let you know that means daily excercise.. cardio and fitness wise! cardio to get you heart pumping and to get you in the fat burning zone.. fitness for the muscles to grow.. Mind you.. muscles are heavier than fat.. so if you also are checking your weight to see progress.. be aware of that! If you've seen those weightloss programs on TV.. it really means being commited.. foodwise and excercise wise.. And if you want to kéép slim and muscular.. the best way to go.. is not to steep.. You cán loose weight fast.. but than you get the jojo effect.. Why?! For you use your willpower to get going very fast in the beginning.. you will néver keep that up.. Why.. willpower is meant for powerbursts.. so, it's better to use that will to make sure that you make sure that you prepare: *make sure the wrong food goes out, and the right food is in the house.. so if you dó have thhe munchies.. you cán eat sth y'like.. though less calories ;-) *make sure that you have the stuff to work out.. and friends to help.. *get a log to keep yourself motivated and see progress. *drink loads of fluids.. tip: check wikihow ;-)
  6. It might be useful to also put some creamy stuff on the hands and tub until the skin is saturated.. the rest you get of with a cloth or towel.. maybe massaging it in is a good idea.. Good for mutual contact also .. why not let him choose: doe you want to rub it in moms hand or shall I do your hands first? Does he like working with his hands?! Might be fun to try out finding some items in a deep bowl filled with macaroni/rice/dry beans etc (giving the hands heavy/deep stimuli ;-) ) maybe that might give the hands some rest over time.. Water is heavy, especially in a stream.. lathering also gives a stimulance.. Sand also gives a good stimulance.. or small stones.. (in autumn whatever falls from the tree.. different nuts and such ;-) Nice and cheap) make things easier/more difficult by putting big items in small macaroni.. or using items nearly as big as the pasta you choose for this time (thus varie with that!) NB: give your kid the room to experiment.. It isn't unusual to see your kid just starting with just the one finger.. end not delving in Maybe you should even try yourself.. though what one likes, another might not! another remark.. it might also be.. that your kid puts his hands in at a point.. but doesn't go and explore/go for the items.. he/she is just enjoying/sooking in the pressure on the hands.. let it happen.. I usually prepare this by outlining (writing) the items on a sheet.. so the kid knows how big the item might be.. It also stimulates matching/counting/calculating/reading.. just what fits with what challenges y'kid have FUN!!! and please let me know if you have questions, more idea's or just wanna feedback.. <3
  7. Nice to hear you had a good time..Hope the hang over doesn't last too long Happy B'day love, B'fly
  8. I am in a cook-group.. One of the women gives backing-courses.. so we got a cake decorating afternoon for free Gotta admit that the end-result was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to sugary for my taste.. I actually got stomack cramps! But doing it.. I LOVED the kneeding and such.. For who also gets the saliva running.. a more healthy one, though also very compelling and scrumptious: search for chocolate mousse tart on youtube (Jennifer Cornbleet) Also very useful for those who have difficulty with several food items ;-) (except nuts in this recipe.. maybe you know an alternatiev yourself?!) Have fun, that's the way to go!!
  9. I can send you the recipe!!One of the things I've learned.. that quite a few AS folk need to learn to be loads kinder to theirselves.. pamper yourself and learn to be a friend to yourself Treat yourself to a nice piece of cake !!
  10. I agree with the above also! footballing and trampoline are great! (jumping rope might be a bit more in the budget in the mean time..) Excercise/movement is key.. For everyone! actually Aspie's are toooo much busy in theird head; but can't vent.. Use the body.. use alle muscles.. not only the brainy ones! That's what muscles are for!! And it helps to get some stress out and relax the brain.. becoming less busy, and more effective Yesterday I found a youtube vid with an 68yr old.. jumping rope on his porch.. He néver used to like excercise.. nów he sees and feels why it is so important.. not only due to his age.. It might be very helpful to get a therapist to assses what kind of stimuli would be useful in class ;-) So when there is sth special, like a family gathering or sth.. you have the means to help him get thru without to much hassle Deep stimuli usually work soothing for busy kids, but also activating for 'what seem like inalert' kids.. (It might wear ought though.. with a few..)
  11. I know that it sometimes help to deal with several stimuli, when the body has deep pressure.. laying down on the floor, pushing against the wall, jump.. that gives a more soothing effect; which works for you.. try out yourself.. I know that in some care fascilities gloves are used..like those scrub ones.. cut of one finger and use: tootpaste on it and brush with own finger.. It might also help to feel across the teeth after brushing and eating sth that is really sticky on the teeth... so he feels the difference and hopefully gets an urge to get rid off it.. motivation from your kid is always better! Likewise with education.. learning prevention and show what happens if you don't brush enough.. When you're willing.. the energy is totally different, than when somebody else wants you to do sth!! A specialized SALT will have technics to sooth in and around the mouth area! love, B'fly
  12. jummy for the cake I made (wholewheat with zest, ginger and raisins..) a big smily for some poems I wrote (a simple kinda verse.. 11 words..)
  13. It helps when you are aware that life in fact is constantly changing.. you are and so are people around you.. So, though you might feel that a certain friendship might be forever.. one can néver tell.. you might grow apart, move away.. loose sight, and that is hard, but only normal! Maintaining friendships is also an item on wikihow btw ;-)
  14. Hi Adam,Glad to hear you have no sleep anemia.. How do you mean, you do have insomnia.. in what way: having trouble falling asleep; waking up several times a night or waking up really early (or a mix..) Have you ever used a sleeping journal to keep track? Some people do tend to have energy for three.. and sleep less than others.. Though if you call it insomnia yourself, you do also know that it is not an ordinary occuring thing.. Do you dream a lot, or actually very little.. ever had hallucinations before the lapse in the bathroom? Do you have a regular routine when going to bed.. avoiding TV, computers, cola etc at least one hour prior to sleeping.. Ever forgotten a part of the day? It might even help to let your blood be checked on B6 and other vitamins which helps to make serotonine (which helps the produce of melatonine..) to sleep better ;-) And if you really want advise.. and you are a curious bloke.. well see above for one.. ;-) and secondly: For everyone with AS routine is key, so is mental rest.. mental rest is best acquired thru a) activating the body more (AS people tend to be too brainy ;-) ) for at least 30-45minutes every day.. take your camera for incentive on a walk or bike ride.. or learn to do yoga (I never knew how much knowledge there is to attain through really looking into that.. it's wáy more than difficult body postures.. actually it shouldn't even be uncomfertable, for than you're doing sth wrong!! One should listen to the body first, even more so than to the instructor! Hatha yoga is a good start..) learning to calm your mind thru meditation.. try and sit, just observing your breath going in and out thru your nostrils.. first a few minutes (a timer might help..) Your mind will always want to wonder.. it's not used to being silenced.. though, ahem.. who is in charge here?! You or your thoughts ;-) Gently address your thoughts and continue on focusing on your breath.. NB: trying is good, being nice to yourself also.. Don't let any negative thoughts in when things don't go as planned (ever! actually), rephrase to a positive form c) if you have a busy head.. which is very common for people with AS.. write stuff down!! Get it out and not spinning in your head ;-) Those three things help me a lót!! I wish I'd known before.. I hope it will benefit you too, or sb'else reading along ;-)
  15. *sigh* ohw... Most definitly... Somehow.. my system isn't in balance yet.. Good idea's usually pop up when just awake.. and I'm still in touch with my subconscious.. Though when on my feet.. like a dream.. I might wanna remember, but <poooof>.. it's gone, can't find it.. hidden away again, somewhere deep.. or I don't remember until I go to bed again.. (mindset more in touch with subconscious again) and I realize that I had such great plans.. though somehow I forgot.. though it might also be an ADD thing.. Either way.. It will help to keep a notebook nearby to jot down good idea's! And when doing sth.. keep your mind on only that (kinda like mindfulness).. maybe even reapeating that out load in your head, to stop intervening thoughts from popping up I'm curious to hear more.. love, Seed
  16. Well.. THIS is a good start ;-) and.. there is sth like wikihow, with also several tips on friendship, relationships etc.. General feeling: Most AS click better with other AS, though not necessarily so.. usually.. There is more respect for quirkiness, if perceived as such by others anyway..
  17. I'm very sorry to hear that.. Glad your dad did walk in!! Biggest question: did you doze off because of the heat, busy day, etc.. and slip under water.. or did you have some sort of lapse..?!? It could be an accumulation of circumstances.. with a nearly terrible outcome.. Or there might be more to it.. both equally plausible form what we know so far.. Any tiredness during the day? How is your nighttime sleep? Ever feel any weakness when you suddenly have to laugh?! How is your bloodpressure usually.. low? Can you stand heat in summer? Have you ever fainted before? Ever feel werid after running or other intense excercises, biking, ...? Can you handle a rainsuit.. or do you roll up the sleeves to get rid of excess body heat?? What happened today should indeed be known by your GP! Btw.. I have narcolepsy, which I know since mid oct '11
  18. What psych also would like to know, if the signs where ther from early onset.. * how did you devellop as a baby and toddler, any things you skipped doing and suddenly just did; or things you kept doing even when not age appropriate.. * any special remarks as to oral sensability (food, drink, brushing teeth) .. If you like some more info for yourself there are online tests.. though some lines to react on might be preceived from different angles.. so are difficult to answer :/
  19. what I found on the internet: http://www.mind.org.uk/help/medical_and_alternative_care/dialectical_behaviour_therapy#find
  20. On wiki and wrongplanet there are several of these lists.. without reading those, my thoughts were: Dr House, Dr Cox (Scrubs) Gorren (d'onofrio), Reid (criminal minds), Sherlock (series), all 4 men from BBT, esp Sheldon Sebastian, the never ending story The whole household from Malcolm in the Middle.. Furb (Phineas and..) Several characteres played by Johnny Depp.. Jack Sparrow; Sam (Benny&Joon) Arnie (diCaprio in What's eating Gilbert Grape) ... maybe more come to mind..
  21. pffff difficult subject.. hearing voices can mean being overly sensitive to sound, and hearing what is said 3 classrooms beyond (and everything inbetween..) all just as load.. psychologists an psychiatrist usually see it as a sign of mental imbalance (to put it mildly..) thus difficult decision on your part! What I've learned last year.. the AS-brains is waaaaay to active.. the body is not.. total imbalance. Actually, the mind is not supposed to call all the shots.. we are! Our mind is just responding to prior/old memories and will randomly intervene with emotions. It's hard to make your mind up when it's almoste literally clouded by emotions and memories.. I benefit greatly from daily excercise and (trying out) meditation.. it puts my mind at rest.. Though I keep stumbling over my lack of structure..within 1-2wks I forget my walks/bike-rides and my5-10minutes of (trying to achieve) total quiet.. But really.. most of all the excercise does a lot! Maybe also for it makes the blood flow better, and the bowls work better.. It helps a lot if the body can get rid of toxines which tend to be less well transported when being stressed (kidney functions less, bowls also for lack of blood..) Active walking cycling makes my head clearer that day oh.. and for me, writing stuff down also works.. or whatever means of expressing oneself.. drawing, etc.. Like the others, curious how things are going presently Good Luck! B'fly
  22. Finally! Congrats... I most definitly get the feeling of relief! (diagnosed at 38..) It is hard to keep banging on doors and not getting anywhere! Even specialized people might have a straight and narrow vision.. which is a pity! Hopefully things will b put in the right perspective now! love, B'fly
  23. Hi Kelly, When your kids is extra sensitive, like kids with ASS tend to be (eventhough the opposite might also happen, as in overly sensitive too sound, though load and sometimes appearing deaf) When oversensitive and overloaded bij senses.. the mean emotion is fear. Where does everybody feel fear? Right your stomack! Why.. for lack of blood.. which goes to your extremities to make a run for it! Thus the stomack isn't working optimaly! Refined sugars, fatty fried stuff etc are difficult to proces than.. So there is definitly something to say for a diet! Though the best 'diet' for any ASS person, is being aware which senses are being overstimulated and understimulated.. and with the help of an SI-therapist make a list what activity or rest is needed when! A sensory diet.. ;-) That will work miracles also.. for years to come, especially when going to school Love to hear how things work out! B'fly
  24. Did you discuss this with school? Going to the toilet, especially for stool, can be a problem if you have sensory issues.. Too make it softer, it's very important that the bowls move a lot (like leg movement with biking); one drinks plenty; and you eat the right kinda foods.. There are simple yoga posses to help the bowls.. wouldn't even take much time.. ASS kids basic emotion is fear.. thus stress: that means that most of the time, the bowls don't get enough blood to rightly do their duty! (flight means more blood to legs! ..to run and hide!) A lot of ASS people have IBS (irritable bowl syndrom) or other problems alike .. it's not a cause, moreover an effect from being overstressed.. It would be helpful to know if the soiling stops when her stool is smoother.. Preferably in the most naturalistic ways, for medication might cause bowls to becoming inactive if taken too long.. which would lead to a bigger problem.. Discuss things openly with her.. and find a solution together, parents always have the last say of course.. that's why you're parents ;-) **it might be usueful to call a (children's) hospital specialized in stool/poop problems and get some info from them
  25. There are loads of writers who **** at grammar or have dyslexia.. like Roald Dahl... the fact that the brain functions kinda different has it's pro's and con's.. creativity is usually an asset then: http://www.dyslexia.com/famous.htm Great tutor , I love such inspiring people!! (also writing a book, fantasy for 12+, in Dutch though ;-))
