  1. Ask for a referral to your local welfare right support group, they will help you fill out the form!
  2. Yeah, the general idea is that if you also have speech delay then you are ASD, not Aspergers. My son is the same, in fact I asked the very same question here a couple of months ago!
  3. My son started saying words 3 months ago, when we introduced him to PECS. He was 3.5 and he is getting better and better, in fact now he is putting two words together!
  4. {HUGS} I'm sorry your GP wasn't more understanding, to be honest I find that they do not know much about ASD, it's so frustrating! You'd better see a Paeditrician. The other day I took my son to the doctor's surgery about his tummy bug and we saw a new dr who asked me twice if I was sure that my son was Autistic, he just didn't believe it, because he made good eye contact and waved bye bye. He didn't have a clue grrr!
  5. Not my son (ASD), he is 3.5 and very sweet natured and wouldn't hurt a fly. His teachers love him and the only meltdowns happen when you disrupt his routine without warning. But I think he is the exception to the rule to be honest.
  6. Is it true that the mobility component is only payable from the age of 5?
  7. My son is 3.5 and I just learnt that we got middle rate for the care component and nothing for mobility. It's better than nothing, but he deserves more than that
  8. That's great news, congrats! Fingers crossed it will be my turn next.

    AIT

    Glad it helped!! I have been wondering about those therapies as well, my son's speech therapist doesn't think they work much but you just proved her wrong. If only they weren't so expensive!

    HELP!!

    My son is very picky too, I want to pull my hair out. He'd survive on dry cereals if I let him!
  11. I watched it too and went through a packet of tissues. I am stil crying actually...
  12. Which part of London will you be moving to?
  13. It's so hard when things don't go their own way, isn't it, hang in there! {{HUGS}}
  14. It went really well, we talked for over an hour, I explained what my son's difficulties are and then she read the reports from our Paeditrician, Speech Therapist etc. to get to know him better. I gave her a copy of what I have written so far (it's 5 pages long) and we're meeting again in a week so that she can return the report to me with her comments. She even invited us to visit the school once a week on the last term so that my son will get familiar with the school and the teachers, plus she will give us a blue badge so I can park in the disabled slot outside the entrance (my son is a nightmare to walk with, he stops for every little thing). She is awesome, I am very lucky!!
  15. Ugh how annoying, I am sorry. {{HUGS}}
  16. Thanks girls, in that case I won't call IPSEA. Not yet anyway. I have typed a report (5 pages long) to take to the meeting tomorrow, so we're not really doing it from scratch, although I haven't done this before and she may suggest that we do just that LOL. Wish me luck!
  17. Oh WOW, thanks for that, I ordered one too!
  18. My son is due to start Reception in September 2007. I chose one of the local schools because the SENCO seems very helful and has a caring attitude, in fact I have a meeting with her tomorrow. She offered to help us apply for a statement, I am very grateful. She says she does it all the time and she knows what to write to get what we need, I sure hope so. Parent Partnership didn't seem very helpful and they didn't offer to meet me in person. I may try IPSEA next, since many of you think they can help. But knowing that the SENCO is doing her best to help us is great!!
  19. My son would love that! Very interesting.
  20. I know what you mean, my son was only seen for about 30 mins too, although I was there for over 2 hours. Good on you for sticking to your guns. Mothers always know best {HUGS}
  21. Thanks everyone, I think you're right in saying that AS and HFA can overlap and that it also depends who is making the diagnosis. Our Ped sees us every 6 months, hopefully she'll have a better idea next time. MichelleW - my son makes great eye contact, yet he was diagnosed as being in the autistic spectrum. Baddad - thanks for the link, I'll have a look!
  22. Very interesting, thank you!
  23. Thank you Bikergal, that was what I though as well. I am curious to see what others think.
