  1. I had the same problem with my son although he was only 10. They seem to have loads of testosterone these lads. I bought him an unperfumed stick and some antibacterial wipes for his face. He has a chart and one of the subjects is 'taking care of myself' and I put it as the last two items after brushing teeth. He has things like putting his clothes into the washing basket before then, so it doesn't seem like such a big deal for him anymore. He puts a sticker in the square when he has done all his tasks. I mentioned that he was growing up but I didn't go into too many details. He is a bit anxious at the moment and I would not be surprised if he has 'sprouted' one or two little curly ones! He used to run around like a naked loony but now screams and shouts if I happen to be within 100ft of him when he is changing or in the bath. I don't know quite how to deal with these 'personal' thingies and I am dreading having to talk about the 'nocturnal emissions' - it has got to be sooner I suppose - he will be 11 next week and I think it is around this age that it starts and I don't want him to worried. Chances are he knows a lot more than me! Hope this helps HelenL

    Statement of SEN

Statements are to be reviewed on an annual basis! This is a legal requirement! You should have had a copy to discuss along with the reports that are given for the Annual Review. You are supposed to contribute to this review. You should be invited to attend the meeing. Contact NAS or IPSEA if you need help with this. Hope this helps Best wishes Helen

    Statements

Hi Lisa I can't answer this one as it has not been in the last six months - but I am awaiting the results of the annual review and whether they will change the statement. I will know by the end of next week. If they amend I may record it as a yes. I think you are right though. The parents I am supporting are getting statements eventhough they are badly written. Love Helen
  4. <'> <'> <'> lots of these for you and yours <'> <'> <'> <'>
  5. Well done SMT2 and a bigger well done to T - he was a star! It is quite a gut wrencher to hear these things about your child, but at least someone has got to the heart of his problems and in a few days you will realise what you are dealing with and get the strength to carry on fighting for him not to be placed in the setting where he will certainly not be understood. They have their own preconceived ideas about what is up with him and we know that it couldn't be further from the truth. Things have been rough for you and what with the criticism and bad stuff that has been written in reports - but now you just get that head held up! I got a big job on at the moment - helping a good and kind mum with her little lad's case statement I know you feeling like throttling the little sod at times - but you are not meant to be a saint. Love HelenL

    Front Page News

Oracle, This couldn't have been timed better. A colleague and I were arguing with reps from LA about who held the responsibility for adhering to the DDA on Tuesday and they said it was not their problem - It was down to the schools!! Brilliant - I have now sent the article to them. Thanks HelenL
  7. Keep going girl! You have a very bossy friend and her little sidekick who beleive in you! Love H
  8. Fantastic that she is from the Disabled Childrens Team I am being dealt with by Children and Families (Child Protection Team) side of SS, only because, according to the lead at Children and Families - they only put children with long term and serious disabilities with the Disabled Children's Team and they don't recognise ASD's as a disability. That, hopefully is about to change after some intervention from the MP. No wonder we are being sent on parenting courses!! Hopefully with the Disabled Childrens Team, you will be able to access services that are commissioned by them that are ASD specific. Let us know how it goes - I would be interested to hear. Love HelenL
  9. Hi Guys I was only on for two minutes but I hope I got plenty of stuff across. The Producer of the show has told me that they will return to this issue and will be in touch with me. Off to phone my agent Love HelenL
  10. Thanks Guys - I am fine - but the mob will tell you - I have been very very very very active and doing lots of support stuff. Thanks for all your kind thoughts. Now this Z list Celeb needs some sleep for her early morning stint on the radio. mwa mwa ( suitably luvvie air kissing) Love HelenL
  11. Hi Guys, I haven't posted for a while. Had problems with marriage and we have split. But - just to let you know that I have been invited to participate in the Julian Clegg Programme tommorrow morning just after 7.00am on the subject of Inclusion. I have a holiday club going and busy busy day but if I can, I will post the link to listen later - but if I can't then maybe someone else would be kind enough to do the honours. The listen again facility is only available for 24hours on Solent. Wish me luck! Love HelenL
  12. DONT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU WILL END UP DOING A LOT OF THIS Why the big problem with statements! - If they are an outline of what an 'inclusion partnership' would be doing and by and large the school already have the funding delegated as part of their SEN budget then I think that this is a way of everybody dodging their responsibility towards your child. DONT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HelenL (who has seen a lot of families come to grief by accepting this 'less than gentlemans agreement')
  13. FANTASTIC!!!!! Gives hope to us all HelenL
  14. Hi Oracle I also posted his telephone number on the awares site but I don't think Paula has been there! This is very worrying and it has really distressed one of our mums. Love HelenL
  15. <'> <'> Hugs, and positive vibes being sent for Paula <'>
  16. I'm worried. Please let Paula be OK. I don't know what is happening but she must be in distress HelenL
  17. Not quite on the grand scale of Oracle and hubby but we have a pressure group that has been active for about three years and feel like we are walking in treacle. The rot comes down from the top and it seems that to even get LA's to conform to the law is an impossible task, let alone try and get efective change for the best interests of the kids! Battered and bruised doesn't even begin to describe Oracle. Surreal is a good way to describe the situation and one mother of a bad dream. Still - not going to give up - ever! HelenL
  18. Thanks Oracle - have sent it zooming round our mob. Interestingly, one of our local MP's who is supporting our group is part of the supporters of the Every Disabled Child Matters campaign. She is a diamond! If there is anyone in the Meridian TV region, then look out for our group tomorrow or tuesday evening news. We are going to be present at a fringe debate run by NAS and Treehouse on the 'make school make sense' campaign and the reporter from Meridian said he may like to do something on it - keep fingies crossed. Love HelenL
  19. Smiley - if you do not have the words 'dedicated 1:1 support, then there is no legal responsibility for it to be provided. You certainly should have a copy of the Psychaiatrists report and yes the statement should reflect ALL the needs and provision established by the professionals (yourself included in this description of Professional) Love from the Gang at Alder Hills
  20. I think this is a disability discrimination issue. Children shouldnot receive this treatment if thier actions are as a result of thier disability. Helen L
  21. Don'tlike to be reminded!!! Going to call you Harrod's (they have had xmas displays since about 26th December 2005!!!)
  22. Congratulations JenRose - phew you must have been on tenterhooks HelenL
  23. Hi Guys I think they put it there because it could also be a medical need (eg medication) and so long as it is in Part 2 then you are OK - it is when SLT is deemed to be a health need and there is no reference to it at all in Part 2 that you have a problem. Best wishes HelenL
