  1. Hi and welcome. My son was diagnosed HFA (High Fuctioning Autism) last year at aged 6, he also has a few co-morbids too. This site has and still is a godsend when it comes to gaining advise from the wonderful people I share here with. OI can honestly say that had it not been for those here, I would never have pressed on for a daignosis as I had been told by my son's Pead that he was not ASD. other than reading the links that Tez posted for you, can I maybe suggest doing a search. Think up a word describing what you are looking for and type that into the search bar on the search page (link found at top of this page) and have a look through the posts there. That is how I first started gaining valuable information and it does help tremendously. Can I just say, welcome to the site and I'm glad your friend has found a dear frind in yourself. not all friends are like you, nor family for that matter! LOL
  2. My son has both ASD and ADHD and yet I never drank a drop whilst pregnant with him. I VERY rarely drink anyways, maybe7 or 8 drinks a YEAR!
  3. ... is now on sale at Amazon. It's just shy of a tenner and I ordered my copy today. Not sure how long it's been out but I've been keeping a close eye out for it and noticed today that it's selling. Yayy. Just a heads up for ya'll.
  4. Certainly made the right decision. Wonder if it was the nasty piece of work that called you, whom got struck by lightening.
  5. Can't really say, all I can state really is that when my son was 2, he wasn't putting words together. When asked questions, he's repeat the last word of that question so when asked 'what's your name', he'd reply simply 'name'. He had echoalia and did not understand the meanings of words, still has trouble in that area but he has climbed mountains with the help of a SALT. Later, he progressed onto repeating back the whole question instead of answering. Hope that helps some.
  6. I love Christmas too and am almost half done with my shopping. Started in July. LOL
  7. Hope it goes well today hun. Keeping all fingers and toes firmly crossed. (((HUGS)))
  8. You both had a lucky escape there! Glad you both weren't more hurt than you were and that the police investigate the other driver. <'> <'> <'>
  9. Glad it went well today. Keep us all posted k. (((HUGS)))
  10. Just letting you all know that once again, I have proved those docs wrong! After 4 and a half years of fighting, he was finally dx with ADHD today and put on meds. (Atomoxetine) Soz this is brief but been one of those days today so I'm off to have an early night. Hope all is well with everyone. ~TM
  11. Simon... Where's that train of yours gone????? I liked that train ya know!
  12. Told you when you elected the last batch of Mods, that Mossgrove should be one!!! Hurrayyyy!!!!! <'> Way to go Simon!!!!!!! Now do I have to bow down to you???
  13. My son's dx was made be the Autism Team of our local hospital after 2 health visitors, the school, his Pead, 3 SALTS etc etc all said No to ASD. Took 4yrs to get that same Pead to refer him for assessment b/c I was adament I was right in my ASD concerns. Finally got the Pead to refer him although she didn't believe he had it and furthermore, she is 'trained' in ASD's and within 6 mths of being seen byy the Autism Team, he was dx with HFA. Now going down the same route with ADHD. Was told he does not have it by his Pead several years ago but since I proved her wrong with the ASD theory, she agreed to refer him again for ADHD assessment right away. Have a joint appointment on monday to see Child Pysch with the Pead. Stick with your instinct. You know your child better than anyone and if you believes she is ASD, then be persisitant and do not give up! <'> <'> <'>
  14. OUCHIES!!!!!!!!!! Just did an E-Bay search for you and found only one, but it's a buy it now price of 14.99 with a shipping cost of 3.00. The seller has 9 of em for sale. How desperate are you?? Failing that, have you tried your local National Ex[ress office?? They usually have um on sale there, at least they do at mine anyway!.
  15. Kathryn, what were those 3 reasons again??
  16. I seen that preview on my cinema's website, looks really good. With Weaver playing te lead role, it has to be a good film so I'll definatey be parting with money to watch it once T is back in school.
  17. T goes back Wednesday too. I CANNOT wait, especially after the last 2wks I've had with him. Is it Wednesday yet???
  18. I think you said that perfectly. I'd be inclined to print that out and post it through their letterbox. Lets hope that this child that is due brings them to their senses!
  19. I don't think your crazy. I can only say that 'personally' I wouldn't do it b/c T wouldn't cope. He was in a Welsh mainstream (speaking) nursery before his HFA dx, he lasted 3mths before the school told me he'd have to leave. He was then after a LONGGG stay at home (6mths) placed into a closer English mainstream school where he has thrived with the help of an exellent ex-LSA and speech therapists. I think that our kids have a tough enough time speaking and understanding English. As part of the LEA's National Curriculum, b/c we live in Wales, kids at school have to learn Welsh so T is now being introduced to it again but it's not as 'in your face' as a Welsh Mainstream school would be and he can go with the flow. He hated Welsh to begin with but the past few months, he has enjoyed it. T is 7yrs old. All the very best. <'>
  20. I'm a single parent and have been since I was 4mth pregnant with T, then when he was born he started stalking and harrassing me where we lived and became emotionally abusive as he was during the relationship also. I then moved into a refuge (safe house) where iu was rehoused, he found me so was rehomed again here. We are happy here and for our safety, my son does not have contact with him. Yes it's hard b/c I have to be both Mum and Dad and fight for everything he deserves in life but he is my lil boy and I love him with all my heart. I have thought of giving up a few times and throwing in the towel when he's in meltdown or having a particulary hard few days but I know that deep down, we are both far far happier now alone, than we would have been if I was still in a relationsship with his dad. With regards to your situ, can you get legal advise?? What your ex is doing IS emotional abuse and believe me, that takes a LOT longer to heal that physical abuse does (Just my opinion though as I've been on the recieving end of both). Wounds heal but pychological damage can take years, if not a life time to ease and even then, they never go away. PLEASE think of your kids here. Is he really a good role model, is he really a good father? I'm not saying cease all contact with him but I really do think that maybe 'supervised' access would be a good starting point. Please, think of your kids, not only in the here and now but for how their future will be too given both scenarios (with and without contact). That was the deciding point for me when I decided to leave T's father and I know I've made the write decision b/c no matter how hard day to day life is with T, he is the happiest lil boy I know and both he and I are made! All the very best hun. (((HUGS)))
  21. Thanks for everything you've done over this past year Bid and it's great to see you are staying as a member. Your advise and support is valuable to all of us!
  22. T did as a baby up unbtil he was about 3yrs of age. Every pic I have of him from birth to then is of him in a bib.
  23. I know there are some babysitting companies out there but they charge an arm and a leg. I have never used um but then I'd rather T go to someone both he and I know and that I trust. It is soooo hard finding someone when the amount of people I trust can be counted on one hand. Hope she manages to find one.
  24. My brother flies out on Saturday with his partner and 2 children, my sister then flies out the following weekend. They are all considering cancelling their flights.
