  1. my son has had lots of hearing injections. He is hyposensitive to some noises e.g he hears sounds coming out of the teachers mouth before she talks. Hears creatures in the ground tunneling along the dirt. Yet he misses other sounds. High decibel sounds cause him extrem pain. Currently he is being assessed for an sensory and auditory processing disorder. Jen
  2. Our LEA are the same as (LKS). Money for low cost frequent incidence such as curriculum access, monitoring are given direct to the school for one year. Therefore if a pupil transfers up to senior school the money does not follow thechild until the next April when they receive the years figure. On the other side of the coin the school know they have that money for a whole year regardless of if the pupil stays or leaves and therefore can use that money (from the person transfering up to senior school) to support another child . in school. But high cost low incidence such as deafness and blindness which attract a large sum of money are paid to all schools termly. The school have to send in review figures termly to say the pupil is attending the school and still need the funding. As soon as this type of pupil leaves (high costing pupil). the money is stopped and moved to the new school they are going to. But legally no matter how the money is allocated it is the responsiblity of the LEA to fund statements. Jen
  3. Take your son along and make sure hes upset that way you will put off any future customers. Say you will remove your child only when you have a refund Jen
  4. You are working with the SS. You have allowed them in your house to observe and visit. Do not sign your son over. Have you been to your GP to ask for a second opinion. You are entitled to a second opinion so go for it. Ask the one who carried out the private one if he knows one who works for the NHS and get your son referred to him. Two reports in your favour are better than one. Mothers know their children best Jen
  5. Every drug has side effects just look at the information leaflet on paracetamol. If you read the leaflet first you would not take the drug. However we all need to weigh up the benefits and how the drug does work or does not work. No one can judge people for using medication it is an individual decision Jen
  6. Write a letter thank the head for the letter and ask him to confirm what does 30 hours actually mean. What days will you son be supported and for how long each day. Thank him for keeping you informed and say will would like to be kept informed of any changes so you can help the school to support your son. THIS IS NOT AN UNREASONABLE LETTER TO WRITE EVEN IF YOU DO NOT GET A RESPONSE. THE HEADTEACHER MAY HAVE BEEN GIVEN ADDITIONAL HOURS BY THE LEA. This is what happened with our child. Jen
  7. If your child is having problems writing then there are alternative ways of recording information. Some schools will ask BECTA to come in and assess the child. They compile an assessment and decide what type of computer will be suitable for your child to use. Jen
  8. Phenolic is a chemical that occurs naturally in all foods. With some children (ASD ADHD etc) they can not process them and therefore they build up in the body exerting a toxic effect. Hyperness is a common symptom of this. Many children with ASD, ADHD do not process sulfur adequately. Poor sulphur metabolism leads to problems with processing out compounds such as phenols. Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate are very helpful for many people because they supply both magnesium and sulfur in usable forms). Magnesium is vital for the many enzymes systems that help restore normal energy levels as well as supporting nerve and muscle functions. The primary source of dietary magnesium is whole grains and cereals. If one goes 100 percent gluten free, you lose a primary source of magnesium and could become deficient. A child should receive between around 300-500 milligrams per day. Enzymes are also essential to process food. In America there have been trials done on ASD children using enzymes and Magnesiun sulfate Jen

  10. I agree with Jenrose by pass them and ask your GP for a referal to someone who specialises in ASD. Write down all your concerns so you can take them to meetings. Then the meetings are less intimidating Jen
  11. you could have a word with the mental health worker and ask her to put it in writing. You can present this as late evidence on the tribunal day. You have to take 3 copies for the bench 3 for lEA copies for yourself. They do not have to accept it as late evidence as stated by a previous member. But this kind of evidence should be accepted. Just take lots of photocopies The clerk ask you at the beginning if you have any late evidence then presents it to the panel before you start. Jen

    you need to look at and see what is documented that each school can provide. Then it is up to you to say you want X school because it can meet your childs needs better. Or state the other school only have .........children with ASD the number of staff trained with ASD is.............. therefore you know school ,................will be more suitable to your childs needs. Also you child will not have to have transport provided. You child does not like traveling in cars as he gets travel sick. He would have to get use to an escort in the taxi which would cause him added stress. It will be worth asking how many staff are trained in ASD and what type of course and how long was the course. It would be worth a visit to your doctor requesting medication for travel sickness. That way it is documented in his notes (Having things documented to support your argument is very beneficial).     I have done lots of drug trails but they have always been related to asthma so not the same has the ones on the news. The trials I do are just prior to them going on the market. Jen

    special needs football

    The first time my son went he kept picking up the ball when they were playing but they did not mind just told him he was suppose to kick it. He did not understand that you score in different goals and play in teams. His second week he did not pick up the ball, I still do not know if he understands that you are suppose to pass the ball and kick it in a certain goal. But it does not matter has all the children are having fun and the coaches are fantasic. At the end the brothers and sister also come on and play a game. Jen
  15. I suppose you prepare your case. You say what the disability is and how your child is affected. If you have any evidence off your GP or anyone else that can back that up the better. The lay panel are not medical but they are looking at what you put on the form and what you are saying now. There is a way to fill in the form saying on a good day the child can do...............but on a bad day the child can only do........................ If you do not say it the DLA have to make a judgement on what you say. They are a fair panel so just ensure you have it all written down and any evidence. Jen

    Fire Drills

    The school could have 2 fire alarms in the afternoon so your daughter could get use to them and they use this as a learning experience. That way she would not be in school all day getting stressed but both problems would be addressed for a short term. Hopefully by then she will be able to cope with fire alarm any time of day. Jen
  17. yes my son has golden time. He gets a leaf to put on a tree, that way he can seeing it growing and understands if a leaf comes off it can go back on for good behaviour. Jen
  18. If the school are offering part placement this may be benefical to your child. It is a difficult decision but normally with special needs children it is difficult to get them in special schools so the earlier you start with the assessment and the quicker you ask for a statement the better for your child. You do not have to have a diagnosis to get a statement. It takes 6 months to get a statement it everything goes well. However LEA's are not known for being efficient with they administration skills.   19. On occasions my 8 year old ASD is controlling but not all the time. It also depends on how strong you are feeing at the time of the incident. Jen

    school

    I always say to the Senco to remind people to send me a copy of the report. Hence we have copies of all the reports on our son. I do not tnink all people who go in to view the child will automaticaly send parents reports Jen
  22. my ASD son gets upset if he sees children hurt or crying. He will go up to them and rub there back trying to reasure them. Jen
  23. Good luck for tomorrow. Take some time out to relax and unwind. We all need space and personal time for us to keep giving so much support to everyone else. Take a nice long bath with some sented soap and a glass of wine and unwind. Jen
  24. the LSA should be trained irrespective of whether training is available in your area. If there is no demand they it will never be arranged. 'They can also go outside the area to receive training. We insisted on this in our statement because our children are so complex. A normal mother will have difficulty understanding our children. We have difficulty and make mistakes yet we know so much about our childs difficulties and how it affects them. Insist of training in ASD and what ever other diabilities your child has. My sons LSA has been on training every year. The whole school staff have also had training, but only because we insisted. How can children be included if the staff do not understand there difficulties or how to handle them. Our children are so varied and complex this is essential. Jen
  25. my child could not manage three. We tried two in infants and that did not work. His integration has alway been dependent on him forming a relationship with a key person. I can see where IPSEA are coming fromf but for my child this has not worked. Jen
