Mumble Report post Posted January 20, 2008 No, no, no ...the partay is given by the nuns that run the place where I work as a 'thank you' to all the staff - in that case, don't go in a nun outfit, it might cause offence!!

Mumble Report post Posted February 24, 2008 I thought I'd bump this up to give us something cheery to look forward to and for any lurkers who may have missed it to add a date to their diaries. No one has yet objected to Saturday 12th July which is good because I seem to have used a permanent marker pen on my planner so I'll be there then, whatever happens I know it's still 4 1/2 months away but that's sooner than the 6 months away when I started this thread We have culinary (Tally, BD and Bard on savouries, Lya on cakes and cookies) and navigator roles (Kathryn) assigned - feel free to join with your own specialism! ScienceGeek Report post Posted February 24, 2008 As well as trying to drag my friend along, I may bring my mother as well. I can't really go to London for that day and not spend some time with her as that is the day of her birthday
David Matthew Baker Report post Posted February 26, 2008 Still looking forward to this. One of my friends might be moving London way to work in 3-4 months. Hoping for an invite if he does. You forgot BDs webcasting role so that everyone world wide can join in the action. Other roles that need assigning: Search Party Meeting Point Creaters (for when someone decideds to hyjack this years meeting point) Telephone Navigatorary Service Talking Clock Astronomer Royal (for our taking over the world plan) Chief Jester Tree Climbing Assistant Squirrel Tamer Tunnel Exploration Party Um what else could we add. David Matthew Baker Report post Posted February 26, 2008 OK, prepare to get very lost - you may even end up in the wrong hemisphere... K x Well at least one forum member could end up very happy then. An unexpected suprise for her if we do. I'm afraid London isn't mapped on my phone so it won't be much help down south. I can bring a GPS if required though. We can then adjust the observatories telescope settings to it's apparent location.
warrenpenalver Report post Posted February 28, 2008 I would like to come to this if possible. I dont normally work weekends except when at sea but not likely for me any more. You may have difficulty getting me off the underground system as i love the underground. Yes the noise on trains is a bit much but i love all the tunnels. Other roles that need assigning: Tree Climbing Assistant Tunnel Exploration Party Um what else could we add. I can provide ropes and climbing gear???!!?? Also lots of torches for tunnel exploration!!! I can probably rustle up breathing apparatus for confined space entry if the tunneling becomes extreme!! Oh you could add first aider??? I have a good first aid kit but am out of date by a year for training. Mathematician - we need someone to countus in and out of places so we dont get split up! Someone to say "shutup" - especially for me as i may ramble on for hours even if you fall asleep with boredom. Well at least one forum member could end up very happy then. We can then adjust the observatories telescope settings to it's apparent location. I could be 2nd navigator AKA "N2" - i should know what im doing as its my job Dont blame me if i have you all walking round London with ordnance survey maps and a compass and list of grid references!! I could bring my laptop with mapping on it or also use mobile card to connect to streetmaps for live updating?????? Also means we can go online and leave updates on the site for those not coming to read!! Also does anyone know if you are allowed to use gas stoves in londons parks?? bid Report post Posted February 28, 2008 Also does anyone know if you are allowed to use gas stoves in londons parks?? Mmmm...one of my brothers is in the navy, so I know all about catching squirrels!! Although BD would be laiking that Boho
Mumble Report post Posted February 28, 2008 Also does anyone know if you are allowed to use gas stoves in londons parks?? No you can't. You'll have to eat the deer rare. There are actually a list of rules about Having a Picnic in the Park. It seems we broke these last year as there were 31 of us and you're only allowed 25. We'll have to pretend to be two separate groups with no knowledge of each other
warrenpenalver Report post Posted February 28, 2008 Mmmm...one of my brothers is in the navy, so I know all about catching squirrels!! I refused to eat the squirrel on my survival course, or kill the poor bunny, so i went hungier compared to the others, I know how to set the traps but id rather not :robbie: :robbie: There are actually a list of rules about Having a Picnic in the Park. Guess no cooking then DOH!! I was only thinking cooking means i can cook rice or something to stay with my diet, but maybe i'll have a day off diet and take the hit!! bid Report post Posted February 28, 2008 Do you think it would be too complicated if we all bought different things and shared?? I do a fabby roasted pepper salad... Boho
Tally Report post Posted February 28, 2008 Probably, yes, given the number of people who are likely to come, our different dietary requirements, likes and dislikes, etc. It would be fun though if some people want to bring things to share. I was thinking of bringing some fairy cakes or something.
Mumble Report post Posted February 28, 2008 Do you think it would be too complicated if we all bought different things and shared?? Sounds good in theory, but possibly difficult as Tally says - though there's nothing to stop us doing a mixture of things - that's what'll be good about this - we'll understand that we have different 'peculiarities' etc. However, if I was to do that, you might want to find the nearest hospital first, unless I shop buy - I'm not exactly known for my culinary skills

Mumble Report post Posted February 28, 2008 have i been told yet what i am baking?? Yummy food!! Can you make moist banana cake? (but without apple or celery in it!!) Guess what I'll be bringing ..... I've read this before dinner and was sat there the whole time trying to figure out what I'd missed and what it was you would be bringing. Didn't get it until Lya's post. D'oh! Think I must be a little stressed - that's my excuse anyhow.

Mumble Report post Posted February 28, 2008 well you all ignored me last year anyway so that wont be hard for you lot will it Sorry Hev It wasn't anything against you and we did come and see you later though - I just found the noise level a bit stressy, but I know more what to expect this year (and understand my reactions better) so will be better prepared to cope (earplugs and alcohol in before everyone arrives) - hopefully
Kathryn Report post Posted February 28, 2008 I can provide ropes and climbing gear???!!?? Also lots of torches for tunnel exploration!!! I can probably rustle up breathing apparatus for confined space entry if the tunneling becomes extreme!! Fire extinguisher might be a good idea. Last year, simply by mentioning the historic landmark as a possible meeting point, I was allegedly responsible for the spontaneous combustion of the Cutty Sark. Best to be prepared, eh? Mumble Report post Posted February 28, 2008 Fire extinguisher might be a good idea. Last year, simply by mentioning the historic landmark as a possible meeting point, I was allegedly responsible for the spontaneous combustion of the Cutty Sark. That's why we're meeting at the Cutty Sark again - no-one can be so unlucky as to set fire to the same historic monument two years in a row - can they?
